problem with a puppy

My friend has a new born puppy. He is the runt of the litter. He is very sick and she does not know what to do. I have the puppy with me. He has a very extended stomach and looks like he is going to die. But i think i know what it is. My question can a puppy get constipated? And what can i do t help him. Or can it be worms. But i am scared because he is only five weeks old. I and taking him to the vet tomorrow. But I am scared for him. Can anyone please help me with any help or advice?

have you tried a moist cotton ball with warm water and gently swipe his bottom? edit- 5 weeks? something isnt right here. You need a vet.

My first thought also was to "clean" him with warm water in the bottom area like a Mom would do. It is possible and probable it has worms, most all puppies do but shouldn't affect it pooping... how large was the litter and how big is the Mom?

My bet is worms as the litter should have been started on wormer at 2 weeks old and wormed every 2 week until they are 10 weeks old. When a puppy gets that full of worms it's time for the vet other wise there are lots of health problems that can crop up.

Good luck

Yep, sounds like a severe worm problem. Poor puppy.

I took him to the vet. It is not worm. But the puppy is severely constipated that they could not take his temperature. The doctor could not even put the the thermometer in,. I have to take him to the aspca to get surgery. But i don't have the money for the treatment. This puppy is not mines. But the owner could not afford it. Now i have to come up with the money to help him. And he will be mines instead of the previous owner. I don't know how much longer he will last. But i will sacrifice anything to get help. But how i do not know. He is only five weeks old and scared he will not survive. other than that he is a fighter and he is fighter for his life.

Constipation is fairly to cure. Try unspiced pumpkin. I worry about a blockage which is much more severe.

Good luck and please keep us posted.
