Boiling mad!! Need perspective

I had a horrible experience at the boarding kennel today and need some perspective.

This is a bit long, so please stay with me here.

I found a place that accepts titers in lieu of automatic vaccinations, which was a good thing.

When I went for a tour there a few weeks ago, I saw a sign that read 'all vaccinations must be given 7 days prior to boarding'. I took that to mean you had to get them vaccinated 7 days prior so to make sure the vaccination "took" by boarding time. In reality, I don't even know if that's a logical requirement.

Well, I took Bogey to the vet two days ago to get his teeth cleaned. His Bordatella was set to expire in March, so I told them to go ahead and give him his bordatella vaccine early, which they did.

Then, I went to board the dogs overnight tonight since we had to go out of town. We were in the processing of checking them in and I gave them the copy of Bogey's Bordatella vaccine.

Well, she starts going off on me asking me, "Can't you read?" pointing to the 7 day rule sign. I said even if this new bordatella hasn't kicked in, his old one is still in force.

She started talking about his new vaccine is still "shedding" and that puts her dogs at risk. Then her husband said I shouldn't even be taking my dogs to the vet within 7 days prior to boarding. I said that didn't make sense since my dogs are vaccinated or titered against all the things they want you to have.

Then she siad, "Well, they aren't staying here tonight." Her husband brought out all their stuff and asked us to leave.

Help me - am I missing something here???????? Shedding vaccines??
Anyway, we had to cancel our plans and stay home and my husband is ****** at me. What the? ???

wow I would never step foot in that place again! The attitude in general is just rude! I have never heard of shedding vaccines before, and I have worked at a few vet clinics, even my vets boarded the dogs if thier vaccines were given that day.

Definately not you. What I would do is call your vet and ask them, then get it in writing and hand it to that bitch and tell her you will make sure no one you know with dogs or meet with dogs will know how they treated you.

I think by shedding the vaccine, they mean... when the dog gets a vaccination, it is often a small dose of either a live or killed virus. During the time that your dog's immune system is building up, the virus can spread to other dogs. I think. I don't know if it's true on not, but I think that's what they're trying to say.

Either way, sounds like a stupid place with rude people in it.

I hear what you're saying, but wouldn't the existing bordatella that wasn't due to expire until March have covered him in this instance?

No...it is not a logical argument. Titers are as good as vaccines....period.
