dumb question about cats to puppies.

Okay we have two stray cats that hang around our house. Ironically both neighbors think its their cat ( cats). Anyway- I have seen the cats in our yard ( brave and uh well uh) so here is my question..
I do not know the care these cats get. They look healthy, but with the exception of fleas or ticks, could a puppy get worms from them? I have not seen Lindsey eat their stool. But all she has received is Nemex. Her last fecal when we got her was clean. She has a follow up this week as that one was just a wellness exam and fecal check. I am going to ask my vet about this thursday, but I wondered if anyone knew.
She also will not have her rabies shot for another month either. But the cats are not present when the dog is around.

Cats carry the same parasites as dogs. They can also be dewormed with a feline specific dewormer, but that is usually done by restraining the cat and forcing the medicine because cats are notoriously suspicious about any new foods/treats. Most housecats are as parasite-free as dogs, but hunters who eat their prey will pick up prey parasites.

So- once she is old enough to be put on interseptor, she should be fine? The vet wants to check her fecal every two weeks until she is 16 weeks and can start up. My cats I had awhile back were indoor cats. Their fecal was not checked very often if I remember right, and nothing ever came up.

I'd say yes. I never have a problem with my dogs and cats at all. And I know Willie gets the outside Kitty Cookies if he can. Ew.

yes if the cats are carriers of parasites, there is a risk of her picking something up. Also, very important, make sure they are NOT in your yard when you let her out. If she startles them, and they react, well cat scratches and cat bites are BAD BAD BAD news, especially for a new puppy, and I would hate to hear something happen, its clear she means the world to you!! Good luck!!
