A friend's dog...nerve damage?

I have a friend that bought a puppy a couple weeks ago. She's a cut Siberian Husky.
He keeps her crated when he leaves; lets her out at lunch time and all. The other day she got out of her crate by lifting one corner of it. He put it back together and also tied it shut, then left for work again. However she tried again to get out....only this time she got stick, and pinched between the top and bottom of the crate on her back for at most 5 hours.
She wasn't using her right back leg at all...took xrays, no breaks or anythign oh her spine. The vet didn't know what was wrong.
I told him it was probably a pinched nerve (hopefully only pinched) and gave him my vet's number for a second opinion. They bascially had the same prognosis that they couldn't tell for sure what was wrong.
Today he said she is trying to use it so it sounds like she might have more movement in it.
She doesn't act like she's in any pain at all; she still runs around and plays.

It sounds like a pinched nerve to me, anybody else? If so, do you think maybe a trip to an acupunturist for her would do any good?

If it were a spinal injury, then both legs would likely be affected. Since it's only one leg, I would suggest that the trauma is localized. It could be that the muscle was sprained (which would not show up on an XRay).

Here's hoping for a quick recovery.

All I could think of reading this, was a web site I found some time ago where a dog was killed doing the same thing! It got its neck trapped between the open panels and suffocated. The owners wanted the product removed from Walmart stores but they didn't care. After they started the site they found out it wasn't a one time occurrence and others had dogs injured or killed by the faulty product. What type of crate is your friend using? I may be able to find you the site again if you'd like?

Oh, and if there is acupuncture available it probably wouldn't hurt to try. I've heard most dogs love it.

Is there any pain responce from that leg?
Soft pain - pinch the skin = dog reacts or
Deep pain responce - pinch toe bone = dog responds.
(If the dog responds to soft pain then you dont have to do deep pain.)

If there is a lack of pain repsonce then that would indicate a nerve or possable spinal damage. When I say spinal damage it could be something as small as a blood clot resting on the spine (would not show up in x-rays).

Does she use the leg at all? Does it hurt her when he moves the leg around? Does it just hang there like a dead arm?

I hope everything works out...sometimes only time will tell when things like this happen.

Keep us posted.
