Roxy's Spay.. gotta a ?

Well I want to get Roxy spayed pretty soon but i'm trying to see how many days I should take off work, etc.

How long do you usually take off for a spay/neauter procedure or do you just take off the day you take them in and pick them up and leave them go from there? I'd like to try to get it done on a Friday so i atleast have the weekend but i'm worried about leaving her in her crate for a long period of time to lick at the wound and such. I could get a cone but i don't know if i feel comfortable leaving it on her while she's in her crate.

Help me with some feedback!! lol.

Well even when I worked, I worked at night so someone was with them. But- if a dog of mine had surgery usually the first 3 days are when you need to be there the most. So if the dog had the surgery and came home say friday ( take off) then you have the weekend ( saturday sunday) and if needed monday. By then the dog is use to the situation ... Thats my input...

Keira was just spayed Monday and is already back to herself. I'm home with her all week, just by fluke, but I don't think Roxy would need any more than 3 days with you there with her. And if she does want to lick, you can always get her one of those special collars that they make now (different from the typical cone type).

i'm interested to know about the special collars you mentioned toller. i've only seen/have experience with the cones.

I was thinking she would only really need me for the first few days. My dad is home most of the time and so is my sister (but she doesnt pay any attention to poor Roxy). I'm really the only one that has her out all the time when i'm around.. other times if shes out with my dad it just drives him nuts trying to control her from chasing the cats.

Kirby wore a neck brace collar like so for his last op.

He knows how to untie & unclip your traditional elizabethan collar

ya i'm afraid Roxy would be able to get the cones off herself and tearing them up. She tore her harness off before. She gets very bored lol. I think the best one would be the blue one or the neck brace. i'll stop by petco this weekend while i'm out to see if they have some there to check out.
