Dakota: bad allergic reaction.

Dakota has broken out in hives again. All over her face, her little eyes and muzzle.

She did this when we first moved into this house a year and a half ago. That time, her entire body was broken out.

I've given her two benadryl and we're keeping an eye on her.

Anything else I can do? We have no idea what causes it. It started lightly this morning and has gotten a bit worse throughout the day.

She's breathing fine and is acting normal other than being slightly uncomfortable.

Last time we thought it was fleas. I haven't spotted any but it has been warmer lately and I suppose it's possible.

Was she playing in dry leaves? Sand? Older mulch?

I would give her a bath that takes off whatever she could have on her and use a soothing,oatmeal or tea tree oil shampoo!.
That could only help her feel,better!.

I don't know if she got into anything. Our yard is a mess right now.

I'll throw in the bath now. I'm sure she'll be thrilled, lol.

Yea ours is too and the mulch smells like mold.. Out its going to come! I am thinking of pea gravel there. Its been such wet enough but not as cold, you can smell it in the mulch.

Pea gravel is the best thing to use!. Both my Mom and Dad have it,on extremely large areas(each,on a acre)!.Another point that I love is that POOP is so easy to pick up!!.

Will have to check the yard now. She just got out of the bath and is being dryed now.

I like it because unlike mulch it doesnt mold or habour mites etc. I use to have it at the mountain house instead of the mulch.

We don't have nor will we have pea gravel. So, not really relevant.

Kodie seems better after her bath. No more giant hives, just little ones. I'll continue to benadryl her every few hours and bathe again if necessary.
