Bordetella... kennel cough. The vaccine is like a flu shot.

Bordetella-Causes coughing and sneezing. Transmitted by nasal secretions. Antibiotic treatment helps speed recovery. Part of the kennel cough complex.

He can actually get KC just from coming in contact with other dogs that have it HM. To me it's worth the extra $$.

For me, my dogs will never go to a kennel. But they do go to events, parks, and pet stores, and come into contact with multiple dogs every day, so I vaccinate both dogs with it.

Kennel cough is an umbrella term though - bordatella is only one strain of the virus that cause it...Dogs can still get kennel cough if vaccinated with the bordatella vaccine.

and there are simular flu like bugs dogs can get where they will exhibit similar symptoms.

The term kennel cough is kind of a misnomer..any contact with a strange dog that has the virus whether in a kennel or not can pass the bug.

True, but the vax will help to "soften" the symptom of KC.
I use to not worry about KC/Bordatella, until my dog caught a deadly strain of it. MY whole opinion of Bordatella changed after that. I was lucky, my dog was one of the 1 of 5 that survived it, thanks to my vet who happened to have some experimental drugs for the strain.
He still spent a week on IVs, and near death, and lost 20 pounds

Usually is is kind of like a flu, but it can run through a community like wild fire by just a touch of the nose, and the deadly strain is not to be played with
