Shots to get

Well Roxy's yearly check up will be coming up in June and I've read a few thread awhile ago about people only giving rabies or just a few shots out of ALL the shots that vets want you to get.

So which ones do you guys recommend. Roxy mostly stays in the house and she's the only dog there but i'll be moving into a dog friendly apartment complex so she might come in contact with a few other dogs and I also occationally take her to the pet store and maybe the dog park a few times. She doesn't need rabies for another 2 years and i definitly want to get parvo from all the **** people go through.. i'd rather be safe then sorry with that mess. I might also give Lyme because my vet said its pretty common in my area but she wasn't vaccinated last year and didn't have any problems so i'll talk to my vet again this year about lyme and go from there on that.

What do you guys think?

I always get all the shots. I lived with some people that only got their dog the rabies but would take him on walks and the dog ended up with parvo and didn't make it. If you take you dog to a dog park you may encounter some one who doesn't give their dog any shots and your dog could catch something even if the other dog looks fine

The only way to know for sure is to titer. I only give Rabies here, but we've titered in the past and don't need anything else now.

That said, Dixie is due for her shots soon. She'll be getting a couple since she never received them last year due to her sickness. This year, she'll get her regular booster and we'll titer next year. Same with Mason. It'll be his first year shots, so we'll be getting a booster.

I do the rabis shot every year with my guys. Other than that they just get the 5-way combo shot 'booster' which is parvo, distemper, adeno type 2, hep., and paraninfluenza.

We dont have lyme where I live, at least not to the point where vets recommend getting the vaccination for it.

Mine get the DHPP combo every year, and Rabies every three years. None of the extras. Except poor Holly has to get Rabies again this year even though last year it made her bald out.

Sence you are moving into where they is going to be other dogs. I would also make sure your dog gets a Bordetella along with the rabies and parvo vaccination.

Poor little Cheyenne got rabies shot in Feb. and she still has a lumb own her hip. I had to take her back to the vet after a few day after she got the 3 year rabies. She couldn't hardly walk and sometimes she would fall down in her back legs. But she us doing better now. I just wished that the lump would go away.

Mine get rabies every 3 yrs, bordatella every 6 months and titers for distemper and parvo yeaRLY. TITERS HAVE BEEN POSITIVE FOR 4 YEARS RUNNING, SO NEITHER ONE HAS NEEDED PARVO OR DISTEMPER BOOSTERS. i'M A HUGE TITERS FAN!

I do a DHLPPC combo as puppies, and then i titer yearly and give rabies only as required by law (every 3 years). Im big on titers, and not over vaccinating when there's no real need.

My dogs get puppy shots, rabies after 6 months and I titer from there on out. My oldest dog, Cajun, will be 6 this year and has had high titers every year so has not needed any boosters to date.

I do not give Bordatella as I feel it is a waste of money. The vaccine does not come close to covering all strains. Not to mention the vaccine itself can give a dog kennel cough. Instead I use natural means to boost the immune system through diet and homeopathy.
