my bowzer coughing up blood

Hi,
my 4 year old rotwilder/pitbull mix jumped out the window the other day, and ran out the drive way getting hit by a truck. at first everything was normal except a gash under his arm pit that i have just been soaking with warm water. he eats fine, drinks water... and still the playful rambuncious dog as he always was. The next day we noticed that when he comes down the stairs, or chases the cat anything that gets him excited he starts to cough. At first we thought something stuck in his throat, then it became more of a haking cough and blood was coming out.
i know what your thinking, take the dog to a vet asap. we live in a small town, vet only comes to our town once a week , other than that next one is an hour out. so i have apt for next week, but is there any thing i should do or know till then ??
thanks :S

I would drive an hour to the other vet, he could have internal injuries.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I'm so sorry that this happened. I wish I could give you some advice but you're right in thinking that a vet visit is definately in order. Since this seems to be a sudden onset of symptoms, I would consider an hour's drive to a vet rather than wait.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

I think it is pretty much guaranteed that he has internal injuries.
Go now.

I agree with the others. If he has a rib poking through his lung or something, it would be worth the hour drive. I don't know of anything you could do to help him. Only a vet - and soon. Today. Now.

Please let us know how it turns out. We're hoping for the best for you.

a dog hit by a truck should of been rushed to a vet as soon as it happened no matter how far a drive it is...there is most certainly internal damage...although only a vet can tell you for sure...and the longer you wait the less chance of surviving the dog has...heck depending on the injuries he could have organs failing which if not treated right away will not be fixable

Make the hour trip. It will probably save your dogs life.

Hour on the road or risk your bestfriend... no brainer. I understand you must be in quite a state, god id be if anything happened to my two, but it is important not to take the risk.

Good luck hope he is ok
