Exclamation *Help!*dane puppy with growth

my great dane puppy, Atlas, is about 4 months old and has a strange growth on his front paw.
It's about the size of a quarter, but is round like a golf ball.
it's semi-solid, kind of squishy to the touch.
and he was limping a little, but still bears full weight and trots on it.
(for lack of better word)

what could it be?
we just took him to the vet for stitches, and dont really want to waste money if he just bumped it.
(he's been accident prone)
he started limping yesterday, thats when we noticed it.
it's ontop of the nuckles in his paw if that helps.

he just jumped off my bed, so it's not too painful.

please help

i was thinking of maybe a calcium deposit?
but idk..

thanks..

It could be a bite or he hit it and made an hematoma!.I would still have him checked by the vet!.With a pup,I,never, wait!.

A bump doesn't result in a lump like a golf ball, sorry.
Giant breed puppies are prone to any number of issues, and lameness is certainly something that needs to be looked at asap.

And for the love of God don't allow a Dane puppy that age to jump off a bed!!
Call your breeder for more advice on managing him during these most important months.

Our dane developed the same things only she was about 8 years old. She slowly started limping and then we found out it was bone cancer. Please take him to a vet. Hopefully, this is far from the case with yours but no lump is normal in a Dane. Also, be VERY carefull with letting him be too roudy as they really need to develop properly. He's going to be 120+ if he's pure dane so that's alot of weight to handle.

I agree with everyone else...you dont want to risk anything seeing as he is so young...I would get him to the vet just incase...rather spend the money and have it be nothing then not spend the money and it is too late to do anything.

Let us know...also take some pics and post them...it might help us guess at what it is....but remember whatever anyone says on here is it just a guess...we are not vets and a vets advise is always the best.

I was going along the lines of bone cancer also because the veterinarian clinic I worked at everything you are describing is the same thing they had and it was cancer in the dogs foot. I think you should have it checked out it could be serious. I know the other dogs had to have their toe removed and radiographs taken to make sure the cancer was not spreading any further

Don't want to scare you but I think its in yours and the dogs best interest to get him/her checked out just to be safe rather than sorry.

I doubt bone cancer in a dog that young, plus she said "kind of squishy", but I guess it is a possibility.

I really would like to hear about what happened- I hate when we get these types of questions and never hear back.

Yes I agree, I would like to know what the veterinarian said it is. Maybe he got a sore on his foot that got irritated and caused swelling and he just would not leave it alone. There is so many possibilities with a puppy you have to worry about. But I hope it was good news they received from the Veterinarian and not bad.
