looking to volunteer with a rescue organization

i was thinking, that since rescue orgs, are so beneficial, and such a positive factor in these poor animals lives, i would like to do something to show that they are appreciated. i cannot foster, i don't have the room, i cannot donate $$ cause i don't have much of my own, but what i can do, is volunteer my time. i have no idea who to contact, or how to go about offering my time. i do have a westie, so if given a choice a westie rescue would be my first pick, but but i'm not toochoosy about what breed. any suggestions would be great...

Do a NY Westie breed rescue search.
You could always call the local humane society.

You could look into the Westie rescue organization and see if they need people to transport. The Weim Rescue Railroad is a group of people all over the country that have volunteered their services to weims in need. That way, if you are in Florida and the perfect weim for you is in, say, California, there are people along the way that will transport the dog to YOU!! It is great!! Maybe the Westie Rescue has the same thing?? I would contact them and see what you can do!
