Cali has an "Ouchie"
I noticed about 2 weeks ago that Cali was favoring her front right leg. She's a dare devil and thinks she's part Rhino and charges at anything that moves. Meaning she will clear a flight of stairs in a single bound, or rocket off the deck without looking, and I've even seen her jump over Ruger to get to whatever she noticed moving in the yard.
So I figured she's over did it alittle and had it sore. So I've been trying to carry her up n down the stairs and keeping her on her leash so she can't go full-steam-ahead after stuff. (She hates this pampering stuff!) We go down to the local track, thats fully fenced in, and walk every night and let the dogs run off some steam. Well I had been either leaving Cali at home when she was limping bad, or putting her on her leash so I could keep her spedomoter in check. So we pick the furkids up from doggy daycare and I asked the kennel owner if Cali was still favoring her leg, and she said no. We went to the track and I walked Cali for a ways to watch how she was walking and she looked back to normal. So I (stupid me) let her off her leash to run with the other dogs. She goes tearing off after Ruger like usual and Ruger spun around to face her charge, and they collided. I heard a big pop, Cali sqweel, and Ruger looking like I just caught him poopin on the floor. I run over to Cali and she's holding the same leg up. I inspect it and she doesn't cry, pull away, or even so much as flinch. I put her back on the leash and see what she looks like when she's walking and she looks back to normal, except now she has started chewing the leg. I carry her back to the truck, let Dan round the other kids up, and we head for the gas station to get Cali some asprin. Do you guys think I should get her into the vet asap or wait till monday? She's not favoring it or chewing it right now. |

Poor Cali. I wish I knew what to tell you. I am battling a leg injury wih Indi and BabyE is battling one with Harvey.
Even after x-rays no one can seem to tell me what is wrong with Indi. |

I'm sorry to hear that for both of you. I can't help but feel like I caused it by letting it go for so long, and then lettin Ruger get rough with her right off the bat.

Even if it is a broken leg, is it in need of a vet straight away anyway?
If you keep her nice and still and not moving on it, im sure she could wait a day at least. Keeping her still might be the hard part. We get dogs in the vet a day or two after they broke their leg and it hadnt made a difference. I personally, would be ok with waiting a day, after all, it might just be a strain. But she is your baby, what ever you think is best, but I think she should be ok till Monday

![]() I'm sure it made quite a bit of difference to the dog in terms of pain. Any sort of limp with no apparent cause that lasts more than a day with no improvement needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. The gamut runs from osteosarcoma to a simple sports injury, which is quite a bit of leeway to ignore IMO. |

Oh I meant it didnt make a difference to the healing process.
I wasnt saying directly, wait till monday. I was trying to say that her pup could wait till the next day, it wasnt a super super urgent need. |

How dog you keep a dog still while you 'wait' to get it to the vet if it has a broken leg? Why would anyone wait on that matter?
If she is getting around alright for now and is still perky, eating, etc. like normal you could wait till monday... |

By the sounds of it you all have 'crates' (never used/seen one) they sound like small little cages, that would be perfect, or even tieing them on a small lead with a bed, food water, so they can stand and lay down.
Sometimes people wait when they think it might be something minor, dont have the time to get there, or dont find its an urgent call when their dog doesnt seem to be in pain. If you were that worried, then I dont think you would be asking a forum, you would be at the vet, so im assuming your pups ok and the vet gave it the all clear

Well, Im sure if my dog was hobbling around or lame I wouldnt shove him in a crate or tie him up to keep him still while I pondered if it was serious enough or not to go the vet.
