Unhappy Hudson Collapsed at the dog park yesterday

I decided since it was so nice out yesterday to take the dogs to the park. We went around suppertime so it wouldnt be so busy and I was right it was pretty dead. We started our walk and within a few minutes I noticed Hudson was not his usual peppy self, so I decided to take the short loop...about 15 minute walk.

He really started to slow down about 10 minutes into to the walk so I just kept telling him were were almost there....he didnt make it. He ran ahead a few meters then layed down...this is not unsusal behavior when he starts gettting tired, but he never got back up...by time I reached him he was trying to get up but just let out a wine in pain.

I tied noodle to my waist and picked up Hudson...I carried him to the truck and layed him down. I came home and carried him to the house and just let him sleep it off for a bit thinking he just wore himself out.

He was still pretty sore a few hours later when I let the dogs out to pee...he couldnt jump up the three stares after coming back in, so I picked him up and lifted him up the stairs...at 10pm when it was time for bed he tried to jump up on the bed but just fell down yelping in pain.

I picked him up, put him on my bed, gave him an Advil and then a half hour massage...he slept thru the night without any problems.

Today he is moving pretty slow but want to chase his ball, he keeps dropping it on my lap so I throw it a short distance, but then he just lays back down again.

I went out and bought him some glucosamin and started him on that again today...

I know it was just too much for him...but you should have seen the pain in his eyes when he couldnt make it up on my bed....it broke my heart.

This is just showing that he is really going down fast then I ever thought...

I don't know Hudson's story. But I can't imagine how hard that was to see... Knowing they're in pain is very hard! Hugs to you and Hudson!

Whoa.. back up. NO ADVIL! Advil is not good for dogs. In fact, can be poisonous.

Only slightly okay human OTC med to give would be buffered aspirin.

I feel like I should know this.. but does Hudson have diagnosed medical disorders? I know you talk about his lack of health, but I don't remember what specifically.

At least he didn't literally collapse, when I read the title I thought full on was running or something and just fell flat and passed out.

At any rate, I hope he feels better. I know how difficult it is to have an ill dog.

Ouch, that's really tough. I feel for you, having myself actually lost two dogs way too young. One, named Red, was about Hudson's age and was afflicted with horrible skin allergies - so bad that if not on gruesome doses of pednizone (sp?) he would chew great holes in himself. He would gnaw his feet bloody. Poor guy, I spend many nights sleeping on the floor with my arm over him to keep him from biting himself. And then the prednizone rotted his liver so bad we put him down before he was four. Very, very sad. Then recently our little Nellie-dog swallowed a mitten, had a very expensive surgery to remove it, only to swallow a hat a month later and die I love my dogs and they are my #1 priority and loosing them young is a huge heartbreak. It's hard and sad, but they teach us to be strong and to deal with loss and heartbreak. Hang in there and try to not feel sorry for your little guy. Keeping as normal as you can is the best reassurance for an aling dog. Good luck to you and Hudson!
