Stop Puppy Mills! / Sad poem
Puppy mills need to be stoped! Don't buy puppys from pets stores, if you do, that only leaves more to come, and it creates a puppy mill. Read this poem and you will see what I mean.
Pet Shop PuppyI'm a little puppy, so cuddly, sweet and small I live inside a cage, you see at a Pet Store in the mall. I'm not an only puppy, my sisters are all here. My brothers, too, except for Ralph who died coz he was scared. It's lonely here at nighttime when all the lights go dark, We tremble in our cages and we whimper and we bark. But no one comes to hold us or pet our fears away. We sit all night in terror til the store opens next day. We don't remember mama, left so far behind. she did the best she could for us til Man said "It is time." He crammed us all in cages too small for us you see. We rode for hours; we could not help but lay in poop and pee. And now we sit in a Pet Store where kids come taunt and squeeze. They do not hear our whimpers or understand our pleas. We're miserable and it's scary here we all would rather die. But since we don't we do our best to run away and hide. I know you think my story too sad to leave me be. You want to take me home with you, a happy little puppy. But please, though it is fearful to live here against our will. If you take me that leaves a spot another pup will fill. You can stop our suffering but not by taking us home. You must be strong and leave us here, unsold and all alone. For if you do not take me, then another pup won't come. And maybe he will not be shipped so far away from home. Tho some of us may not survive the cycle 'ere it falls. If we don't sell they will not need more puppies in these halls. And if they need no puppies then the Man will not bring more. Eventually it can all stop! You CAN close the door. So when you see a puppy face so sad and sweet and small. In a cage at a Pet Store at your neighborhood shopping mall. The best thing you can do for him is leave him sitting there. That is the best way you can tell all dogs how much you care. Yea yea.... Ollie's a pet store "rescue", as I call them. It's a good point.. but at the same time.. what happens when they don't sell a dog and it becomes older? Euthanize? I would much rather buy the dog and give it a good home and know that it's better off with me (especially with its background) then some uneducated, impulsive mall shopper. Those are the problem.. they go shopping, have the money, think they are cute, go home.. don't know how to raise a puppy or own a dog and end up giving the dog away or releasing it to a shelter/rescue. Most people that read these things (with a few exceptions.. <clears throat/cough> me) don't buy from pet stores and go to shelters, breeders, etc. It's the ones that don't know any of this, and don't know dogs and are impulsed to take the cute little beagle (nothing against beagles or any breed, but they are just cute puppies) home.. until it turns into a terror puppy, barks, won't potty train, howls/bays, and gets into their favorite shoes.
K.. i'm off my soap box now.

do you want to know more about puppy mills? go to lancaster county pennsylvania on web this is the biggest mill operations anywhere and they are all amish and mennonite religion they drive horse and buggy they treat dogs like livestock if not worse cages among cages piled on one another dogs living in thier own feces and urine laying on wires trying to be mothers to thier puppies sickening another web site stoppuppymills.com to be honest i hate these people along with back yard breeders. puppymill runners are going to rot in ****, if these animals bark to much they shove a pipe down their throat to debark them. when they can no longer produce they are usually beat to death. if you have a pet store that sells puppies in your town i would be in front of it with signs protesting telling customers what they are supporting if they buy one of these poor poor babies, not to mention the vet bills they will aquire because these puppies are not healthy
The journal of a distressed mommy My name is Lady I'm six months old I'm so happy < I have a new family I'm going to live with them They seem so nice I'm so excited < I love car riding I love that very much Here it is, my new home > Oh it's so nice <BR> Before they bring me in my new house I think they want me to visit the barn It’s winter and it's cold outside They are opening the barn door And oh my God! it stinks in here There are little cages all around They are stacked on top of each other How is it possible? They are full of dogs They are crying and barking They are scared, hungry and thirsty Oh God I'm scared I don't want to go But they are pulling on my leash How can this happen? > They seem so nice < They put me in the cage It stinks so bad That I'm sick I'm scared; it's dark and cold in here I think it has been two days They haven't fed us or even Filled our bowls of water My paws are so sore Because of the cage wire Oh, somebody is coming < Finally someone is coming to get us out He opens the door He pushes me in the corner of the cage He puts little food in my bowl And closes the door I was hungry but not anymore Yesterday I had my first heat They force me to mate I didn't want to It had been two days Since we had something to eat again In a few months, I will be a mother My babies will be born in this filthy place My body is so sore If I could get away < Today is a sad day On the contrary, it should be a happy day I gave birth Only one of my babies survived I was too young for my first heat < I'm trying to give everything to my baby It is so uncomfortable on those wires < It is also so cold I'm trying to reassure her as much as I can It has been 3 weeks Since I gave birth They came today to take her away from me She is too young but it is better for her She is so scared I'm hearing her cry Go my little love I wish you luck There is hopefully a better world waiting for you It has been six long years that I'm here Every heat cycle, they force me > But my mommy told me, not more than once a year Yesterday I was not able to eat I threw up blood My fur is falling by hand full I don't have the strength to keep going I'm so tired Please God help me Somebody's coming towards my cage He opens the door of my cage and grabs me It's the first time somebody holds me in his arms A few years ago I would have liked that But now my body is so sore I don't know where we are going? Oh! The light is hurting my eyes It is so hard to see < There is a big bucket of water in front of us He tells me indifferently This is where your life is ending OH God! You finally heard my prayer Thank you The life of thousands of dogs living in puppymill h***. How can people do that to the man's best friend? Last edited by wabit; 06-22-2005 at 03:23 AM. |

I think its disrespectful to some people on here that you are putting Back-Yard breeders in the same category as Puppy-Mills. I know alot of BYB's that do not behave like that and I also know Lisa on this forum is a BYB. Im also offended by it, some backyard breeder may behave that way but alot do not, they treat there dogs like family.

I did personally find the poem upsetting but I guess it's just the harsh reality of life. It is very unfair that any animal should have to go through that but unfortunately there are some very sick people in this world! |

I know what a back yard breeder is, but some people do confuse the two. And if your one of those ppl then you shouldnt classify all bybs together, thats all I was saying. In my mind Lisa isnt a byb but some people may say she is and that is what im talking about. I do believe that Lisa is a very responsible breeder but some people dont stop to look at that.
As for you saying that the mjority of people on the forum arent byb and its not a good thing to be, I never said the majority of people on this forum are. The majority of people on this forum are for neutering and spaying. It is not a good thing to be a ByB I agree with you on that, but sometimes the wrong people are classified as a byb. Thats all I ment by it. |

Lissa is not a BYB. Lilly's owner is not a BYB. CountrySide is not a BYB. They are responsible breeders.
BYBs are wrong. There are no "Good backyard breeders". If they were a good breeder, they wouldn't be a backyard breeder. I think there's a little bit of confusion there. |
