Milk Thistle Question

As you know we are starting Buddy on the natural supplement Milk Thistle for Liver health. The vet sells this supplement, which is pretty expensive, comes to $ 1.00 per pill My question is are there different grades of this? Is the type the vet sells the same as human grade? Is it best to use pill form or the powder?

Veterinary brands include: Marin (which combines silymarin with vitamin E and phosphatidyl choline) and Denamarin (which combines silymarin with SAMe).

I don't think those are necessary. Any decent health food store will have a variety of milk thistle (silymarin) products. I would choose well known national brand (not the cheapest) where the standardized extract is 80% silymarin.

There are some suggested dosage guidelines for dogs here.

Thank you, I was hoping I could use a brand from the health food store as opposed to buying from the vet.

Vets are so overpriced! Good thing you researched it before letting them talk you into getting it from them.

Yes, my vet charged 37.00 for 14 Amoxicillon pills.

Glad you asked in the forum. It helps us all out.
