Neuter Questions...

Tomorrow, it's been a week since Masons neuter. He's playing as hard as I'll let him now and everything is healing beautifully. It's nice and dry, clean and looks perfect. Everything is shrinking as should be, lol.

My vet said to wait at least a week before letting him play hard. Well, I won't lie, he's probably played harder than he should be already. But, is it okay to start letting him (and poor Dixie) play rough again?

Also, when is it okay to swim? We were hoping to take them up to the river on memorial day.

No swimming until the incision is REALLY healed... at minimum 14 days.

I brought Ralphie camping about 10 days after... ended up dealing with a lovely infection.

I have never had a real issue with neuters.

Clifford did pop a stich, but everything ended up fine.

I think after 4 days they are good to go. As long as everything is looking normal and they are acting normal.

Run Mason run!

If they'd splash around in a kiddie pool, I'd allow that (where the water has been filtered for the most part) but I don't think I'd let them swim in the river. Other than that, I'd let him play his little heart out (just watch the area).

I had always been told not to let them get wet with bathing or swimming for two weeks.

Is is traditional stitches or dissolvable with glue? I think it makes some difference.

I won't lie. The ONLY alters I have ever had any post op problems with where on large males and traditional stitches on 2 and the other on 1. Caused a trip to the ER all 3 times.

IF all is good after a FULL week, I think the boys are doing well and ok. The first 5 days are the guarded period to me. That said, the swimming I agree, not until at least 2 weeks...

He's going to be good as new and full bore in no time!
