Would you rather have her incontinent (a condition that can be 100% successfully treated)? Or would you rather have to care for a dog's heat cycle and perhaps an unwanted pregnancy?

I'd have her spayed.

It's not just dobie,it's all breeds that can become inconditent, after spaying!.If you have a good vet,you should be all right + it's a risk, well worth taking,to avoid unwanted pups and peace of mind!.

It can happy in any breed. I dont know that it is any more common in dobes. I truly suggest spaying her.
Both my females are spayed and they have had no issues.

I've had spayed probably hundreds of dogs at all ages & breeds and sent them on to homes and not one "problem" of this sort.
It makes no sense why it would be particularly a problem with one breed over another too.

our boston has a small bladder and was nuetered extremely young. I do think possibly this is what also helped him not have a home and come to me as well as he has to go out constantly and cannot holdit for long periods of time so it's a good thing I am home all the time for him. I was told there is nothing we can do for him other than suit his needs.

Is it (bladder) small for his size? Many small breed dogs are tough to potty train the same as most any larger dogs.

yes even small for his breed it did not mature after the neuter, he is perfectly house broken does not make mistakes. It is not that at all he has to go out constantly will try to hold it even to hurting himself. Old owners said they were gone long periods of time and it looked like they were diapering him maybe they had trouble with messes but was not because of house breaking he physically could not hold it.

Oh.. poor guy. Maybe being diapered hindered him in some way? I don't know as I've never done it. I've heard of people diapering smaller breed dogs to keep them from soiling in the home..

As much as I'm an advocate of altering and do our puppies at 8 weeks before adoption, I'm waiting on Nico until he's 14 mos old so he can have the benefit of proper growth after his rough start with surviving parvo. He's mine though so I can afford to wait on him and know he'll never be a Daddy or humpmeister LOL
