Thread inspired by Weezynollie. (labwork)

First I want to thank Fairydogmother to leading me to Weezy's thread!

Harley turnt 10 yrs in Feb. I thought I would just get him a real big exam etc. He has been feeling ok but I knew his other knee had to be operated on and he has 1 of those fatty bumps on his belly. (which was already proven to be fat and nothing else) I wanted it removed and I thought he would have a nice summer without leg pain. (He loves going in the orchard when the guys are picking fruit)

Well... Bloodwork showed he was having some internal issues. I was pretty much dumbfounded at the time of blood results.

I'm not gonna make this a big long thing but of course I went the next step. He went to the hospital to see an Internal Med Doc. He has chronic renal failure. (kidney desease) They don't want to do any kind of surgery for his other ailments. The gas would be dangerous.

He is now on the Hills k/d diet, Azodyl,Benazepril, antiacid and Tramadel (for arthritus pain)

Harley's Bun/Urea is 57 mg and his Crea is 3.1. It's alien to me but I am doing what I have to do!! His last bloodwork did show alittle high protien and I can't understand why cause he is on such a strict diet!! I have already put a warning on the guys that work here on the orchard, not to feed him ANYTHING!!!!

Oh Kim, I am so sorry to hear this about Harley! You are such a great doggy mom and you have done everything to get him thoroughly checked out, even though I know finances are tough.

I hope the new food and the meds can help slow down the progression. I'm always here to talk.

Feel better Harley!

I just feel so bad for him because now he can't get his other ailments taken care of! I hate to see him struggeling to walk up a 8 inch step. He's a good sport and he get's his TTouch massages several times a day but still...

PS. Deb. your baby is doing just fine! He was here since Wed and left this morning. He went home to a huge suprise!! ( me no happy about that) Yeah, Pam got another!!! When Angus came here, he was loaded with fleas. Of course I FL him! (hey that's $18) My kids are taken care of already. Well it's not Angus fault.

One step at a time Kim. That is all you can do and a lot more than what most people would do. Give Harley some big drool hugs from us.

I am sorry to hear about Harley, I had a dog with Renal Failure when he was 16. I am glad you had his blood work done and you caught this. Did the vet mention anything about putting Harley on a fluid IV?

The Doc didn't say anything about iv. Harley is here at home and is his self. Without the extensive bloodwork, aultrasound and all trhe other tests, I wouldn't of even knew anything was internally wrong with him.

1 good thing though is one of his meds is the exact same thing I take for blood pressure and same miligram. I ran out of his pills with costs $30.00 so I gave him mine which only costs $4.00!

Woohooo!! Now that's using your head! Next time just have the vet write out the script and take it to Walmart or where ever you go for the 4.00 scripts.

That is good, I knew there was something wrong with mine, he was drinking excessive amounts of water and panting. He had also started shaking. His was much worse than Harley's numbers.
