Diarreah.....

I'm almost at the end of my leash so to speak....

My one pom has had diarreah since I got her it comes and goes I have had her to the vet atleast a dozen times 4 stool floats have been done and nothing was found and x-ray was done and nothing we treated her for giardia just in case the fecal floats didn't pick up on it and that didn't help. Today the diarreah was a bit bloody

I am now feeding her pro biotics in hopes it will help the only other thing I can think of is the food I feed I feed Evo it's a very good quality food but the protien is 42% maybe she can't handle such high protien?? My other dogs seem to do fine on it but I have heard from a breeder I know poms can't handle high protien.. I also just bought a 28lb bag of it and I wouldn't even know where to start to find another food I do look at the dog food analysis site but I'm still stuck..

any other ideas of what it might be? since it has me and my vets baffled maybe someone has another suggestion..

Sorry for rambling but I am confused

I would barf her for 24 hrs and then feed her rice and boiled chicken!.Once Bowel Movememt, back to normal, would go back to kibble!.
What kibble do you use and might be time to try something new,to see if she does better like Natural Balance(LID) or California Natural that have limited ingredients!.

my pups did not do well on any kibble I gave them. Same thing, back and forth to the vet we went. I spent over 600 dollars getting poo examined.

Switched to raw, no more problems.

I was also going to say, possibly an intolerance to the food???? Maybe try changing the food, same quality but down the protein a tad, and see if it helps???

First things first -- food trial. Try a novel protein diet. This will rule out if it's food allergies. It will also help IBD, if that is what it is. Novel protein being fish, duck, venison, and the like. Does not include chicken, beef, lamb.

Secondly -- try going to a internal medicine specialist. There you can pursue diagnostics such an endoscopy to take biopsies of stomach and small intestine. If there is any presumption there is an intestinal disorder (such as inflammatory bowel disease) -- they can prescribe tylan powder or other treatments.

Louise has IBD and is on a fish/potato diet and also gets Budesonide once a day. She used to be on tylan powder. Diet alone fixed most of her symptoms, but her bloodwork still had some abnormalities due to unmanaged IBD, so we put her on the meds.

I also agree you should really switch up protein source. Jinjo can NOT tolerate anything with poultry (chicken, duck, turkey, etc) in it, not even a lot of treats. And if worst comes, why not even just home cooked? You can always freeze portions for later. Its not like your feeding mastiffs.

I fed Orijen before I switched to Evo and non of my dogs did well on that they started ripping there hair out I can not have that with show dogs. I called my vet at home and she did say Evo is a very rich food and may be too rich for her since she is so small.

I can't feed Raw or home cooked 1. No time to cook for the dogs 2.If I'm gone to a dog show I will have no where to keep frozen food 3. My husband won't feed the dogs if it's raw it disgusts him so it can't be there staple diet.. I do give raw occasionaly I give them chicken necks and backs and I also have prepared patties I buy raw.

Alot of Dog show people i know that feed raw also feed kibble for when they are at the show but that means I would still have to find a medium ground with kibble. I tried Acana Horrible food not a solid stool for 3 months even the puppies that were weaned onto it had loose stool. Orijen they ripped out there coat Wellness there coats looked drab Now! they had Diarreah.

Also we don't have a internal medicine specialist so that option is out unless nothing els works then I will go up to Edmonton which is 6 hrs away but i will keep that as a last resort.. so I guess I will just have to play with food and i hate doing that but for sure I will cut down the protien and see if that helps and if it doesn't I will try fish and such
