What type of shampoo do you use to your dog?
What do your dog eats?

I switched her from Purina to Nutro Ultra Large Breed puppy a few weeks ago. The vet recommended Relief...it is an oatmeal shampoo - claims I can use it often, the skin just seems to be flaking more.

I would give the food switch a little more time see if the dry skin condition changes. If not, I know alot of people may not agree with this but what worked for my golden's dry skin (not severe) was Head & Sholder 2 & I smooth and silky. When I started bathing her with that her dry skin totally went away, but that is just my experience, every dogs' is diff. Do make sure when you bathe her you rinse ALOT even when you have rinsed and rinsed , rinse again every nook and cranny. I only bathed her when I noticed her skin getting bad again buy not reg.

best of luck!!!

My dog Loki also has extremely dry skin. If I brush him all his dry skin comes to the surface and it looks horrible. His fur is shiny, he gets good food. The best I can do for him is bathe him in an oatmeal bath

I took her to the vet today, and he said "just like humans have dandruff, so do dogs and it will probably never go away"...I find this hard to believe, they put the dead large skin flakes under a microscope to make sure it was not from mites - it's just dead skin. I mentioned thyroid to him, he told me she is way to young for that and has no other symptoms. These are huge flakes, I tried the oatmeal, I am now going to try the Selsun Blue with Moisturizer...WISH ME LUCK!!! Oh, and I am also going to mix omega 3-6-9 into her food
