Bragging gets you nowhere!

I have been bragging lately on how healthy my two have been. Then, last Thursday I noticed some serious discharge and goop in one of Cali's eyes. I thought I'd better get her to the vet (30 min away) before the holiday weekend and not risk winding up in an emergency vet on the holiday.

So, off we go, she gets an ointment, titer testing (might as well while I'm there) and a super chem.

Wouldn't you know it, Bogey starts puking his guts out on Sunday all over our brand new, white down comforter. I quickly took away food and water for the rest of the day and just gave him a few ice cubes. And, I gave him some Pepcid and homeopathic nausea meds.
No luck, he keeps puking and it gets to bile. So, on Monday off to the emergency vet we go. No temp, stool is fine, he needs subcutaneous fluids due to dehydration, a shot of Pepcid (I think that's what it was) and oh, might as well do a super chem while were there. The only thing that turns up is his white blood cell count is elevated indicating perhaps an infection of sorts. Gets a script for an antibiotic and bland diet for 2-3 days and see how it goes.

By Wednesday everyone is fine but we're out about 500.00!

Da/mn dogs!

WHY does it always happen on a holiday weekend? Or right in the middle of the weekend so that you're stuck taking them in because waiting it out is too long?

Sorry the pups had a hard weekend, Deb. I know the feeling, though. It seems that every single time they have an issue, it's on the weekend. If they have to get sick, why can't they do during regular office hours! LOL.

Glad everyone is doing well, though. That's what really matters in the end.

I know! Next time someone gets sick, but is not on death's door, they will be banished to under the porch until regular office hours resume!

No more catering to a dog's whim to pu/ke on a Sunday or a holiday!

J/K, of course. I'm a vet's dream! They must have my picture posted right next to their next exotic vacation brochure!!

It's to the point that I cringe on weekends and holidays but if your dog is going to get sick that s usually the time that it is going to happen.....also at night. I think most of here can certainly feel your pain AND lighter wallet.

I know what you mean... <crosses fingers> Louise has been healthy now for 6 months.

Luckily for me.. time or day isn't much of an issue. I have everyone importants home and cell numbers. I still have friends at my last job, which was an ER/Speciality facility. Everyone has a file at that hospital, with a decent record. Especially Louise.. hers is about to need a volume II. LOL.

Glad your pups are doing ok... And doesn't it always happen when the vets are closed? We have a NO ****(throw up?) rule in our house... They are not allowed to ****(throw up) after 4:00 p.m., or before 7:00 a.m. weekdays!!
HEY, they beeped my P word!!!
Seriously glad they are ok...
