Hi – thanks for your email. When a puppy becomes an adult depends on the size or BREEDS OF DOGS. There are no hard and fast rules.

For many, the 1-year mark is used as a time most DOGS were considered to transition from puppies to adults. However, there are also some subtle variations based on breed or size. In general, smaller breeds are often mature more quickly than larger breeds.

Many toy or small breeds may be considered adults at 9 months to 1 year of age. Giant breeds are often not considered adults until about 18 months of age.

Some believe dogs are considered "adult" when they reach 80 to 90% of their adult weight.

It depends on the breed, age, sex....

I've had dogs grow at different rates.
Some just grew up and never changed,some grew up and then out.
It depends on the lines.

Yeah well, Orson will be hitting the 18 month stage in a couple days. This boy grew like a monster last month. How long does a growth spurt last?
He is certainly not working arounfdhungry or begging. He eats the food that is put in front of him twice a day and that is it for him.

Should I be giving him more food? Like I said, he seems very content with what he has.

I wouldn't overfeed him as during growth spurs,they can get growing pains!.Would just keep doing what you're doing!.
I've seen way too many overweight EM(not yr case) but you still want to be careful!.
With both Leonbergers,I had,I was told to keep them underweight for the 1st,2 yrs and then,slowly let them,add mass!.

It's funny that you say that Golden. He was always a semi thin boy and then BAM! What the heck happened here!!

I don't want to feed him more than I do now because there is no way he is looking for food. He is quite content.

If he's not asking for food,then,you're feeding him,enough!!.

Funny you should mention this because my husband I were just talking about how Lola has grown a bit taller, she is now about 19 months old.
