Hot spots in ears

I noticed last night Onyx has 2 hot spots, one in each ear, in the exact same spot. One looks a little more raw then the other. Looking for advice on what could be an underlying cause, and hopefully can give some relief.

The only changes she has in her life is that, for one, EVERYTHING is blooming right now, could it be an environmental (sp?) allergy??? And second, last week DH bought the wrong food.... nothing on the label she hasnt tolerated before, but she's been on a high protein grain free diet for over a year now... could it be the food? Its only been a week, and she's on a 1/2 and 1/2 mix with her regular food.

I'll try and get some pic's.

Be careful. Excessive scratching at the ears can cause hematomas that require surgical repair. If they're already that bad, I'd do a vinegar bath and then some gold bond to dry it out.

Thats the funny thing... she's not scratching at them at all... their just there.

Here are pic's of the worse of the 2. They look better then they did last night, but I havent put anything on them. Sorry about the quality, still trying to get DH to let me get a new camera...

Do you have any Tri Ketazole or whatever that stuff is called? Great all around cleaner, available from your vet. It's anti fungal, anti bacterial, and anti-parasitic, and you can clean the inside of the ear as wellas the outside with it. Cheap too. Like 9 dollars for a bottle of it.

Call your vet! See if you can get a bottle of that stuff. It's nice, broad spectrum, and you get a decent sized bottle for practically nothing. My vet doesn't even need to see the dog to prescribe it. She takes my word for it.

I'll have to call tomorrow. Its 7:30 pm now, they closed at 6. Im going to try and clean it just with a damp cotton ball, and put some gold bond on it to see how it does through the night. Im REALLY thinking its some kind of allergy...

For hot spot you can use listerine(I use the blue bottle),to dry it!.
Hot spot can be caused by humidity & flea bites but in the ear,it,usually, underlines an ear infection!.

Humidity could definately be it. Flea bites??? Possible, but I havent seen a flea in my house for almost 3 years. Ear infection? Also possible, but would the spot be in the exact same spot on both ears???
