Send good vibes for blaze.

He broke his tooth at the dog park. I was talking to a friend there, and her nephew was playing with the dogs. I didnt notice until it was in mid air, but he threw a HUGEEEE rock, and blaze being the champion catcher he is, jumped in the air and tried to catch it. Luckily it wasnt a canine, but a smaller front tooth. I literally feel sick to my stomache, as it couldnt come at a worser time money wise (not like this is ever a good time), lucky my boyfriend will pay the bill for me and I will just owe him back. He has a vet Appointment at 10am tomorrow.

He doesnt seem to be in aany pain, but we all know how well dogs like to hide it. there goes the money I had set aside for agility class #2.
so i hope its nothing to serious, can be fixed ASAP, and really not to costly, but my boyfriend has more then enough to pay the whole bill and let me pay it back bit by bit.

Im more worried about what if he needs to be put under to get it fixed, with his heart issue and being a hearding breed, it is harder on them to be put under.

I cried at the dog park when I seen it, Then got caught by the biker (motorcycle) guy Im friends with. he said Blaze will be fine relax lol.

Ill try and get some pictures of it in a bit.

Bummer - Hopefully you will be able to leave it as is. I know a friend whose dog broke a tooth (canine) and the vet said it was just fine and to not worry about it - that was at least 5 years ago and the dog never missed a beat. Kona, on the other hand, broke ("slab fracture") TWO of his upper grinders chewing on a bit of antler... $1000.00 Hope yours is free like my buddy's

Oh no I am sure it is something that will be easy to fix but how scary to see that happen. Sending good vibes for your vet appointment. Your friend should have offered to help pay

Yes, most likely they will recommend extracting the tooth, which will require anesthesia.

That's the only way to fix a fractured tooth.

As for your comment about herding dogs and anesthesia --- I have never heard that, nor have I ever experienced anything like that. The only breeds known to have anesthesia issues is the sighthounds. Then irregardless of breed, the individual's health come in to play. What kind of heart issue does he have? Heart murmurs are relatively safe to undergo anesthesia... but if he has cardiomyopathy, or others -- then it's not typically recommended. But I would guess if he did have these heart conditions, he would not be doing agility either.

I also know Blaze is intact.. might want to consider neutering while under anesthesia. Save you from future health issues related to keeping a dog intact (prostatitis, cancer).

How much of the tooth is gone? Is there a possibility they can use a sealant on the tooth?

So we went to the vet. Good news. We decided to leave it be. The root is still intact, just a large piece of tooth missing. the tooth will basiclly just die. I just have to watch for any infection, which wont be hard as I look in his mouth very often. She said we could pull it. But it didnt need to be done. She said he has such great healthy teeth that she thinks he will be fine like this. She felt silly for me even coming in, but understood why i did. So my vet visit was only 20 bucks, which was great. She even told me not to feel bad, her son was swining a gold club a few months ago, and her dads dog got int he way, ALL the front teeth were gone, poor pup is only a year old too. The tooth that is missing is in a good spot for drainage. So lets hope no infection starts. he is in no pain, eating fine, and being his normaly barky self lol.

She doesnt even know that her nephew broke the tooth. As I didnt check his mouth until after, since he was playing fine. I didnt think anything of it. I checked when my boyfriend met me at the park, and I was telling him the story, then we looked at it, and I could have died right there. Big baby me crys at the dog park lol.

I have always heard, and read that herding breeds are prone to many problems with anesthesia. he has a stage 2-3 heart murmur. I just dont want to put hm under for any reason unless it is 110% necasery.

Pictures were really hard to take. But I got a few any way. kinda hard to make out. its the top left (right on him, but picture wise left). give me a min to add them.
