Wick sticking out of Zorro's nail??

Okay the thing that bleeds in the nail if cut too close is called the wick correct? Well if not that is what I am calling it for this thread so correct me if I am wrong.

I was cutting Zorro's nails yesterday and the due claw(spelling?) looked like normal but underneath the wick was sticking out. ONLY I didnt notice it was the wick till I cut it and it started to bleed. So I am wondering how did that happen? I have a hard time clipping that one nail but it wasn't overly grown so I don't really quite get it.

Quick. It's the quick. It's a nerve, not like a candle wick, so it doesn't stick out. BUT it is surrounded by a dry waxy area. If the nail is brittle, the outside can break off, and the quick can be more expose.

Oh, and it's dew Claw. lol.
