Arrow I have a chance to foster a great dane....

Okay I have not written back yet to the lady, but I just got an e-mail and I have a chance to foster a great dane. My dream dog (other then Hudson and Noodle)...I have always wanted a great dane and always said once Hudson has crossed over to the rainbow bridge and my heart had healed some I would get a great dane.

What do I do????? I really want to foster a dane,...it will give me an idea as to if having one is really what I want, but fostering is soo hard, and what if Hudson does not like the Dane that comes in, I dont want to put him in any undo stress....this is his house he comes first. I know Noodle wont care if there is one here or not....I really want to but is it the right thing to do??

Give it a try. I agree its Hudsons house first, if things dont seem to be working they will have to find another foster for the Dane.

How old is the Dane, and is it male or female?

I dont know....months ago...this is how long I have been REALLY thinking about Danes I wrote a letter to a lady so I could get some information on a resuce place for when the time comes to possible get one.

She worte me an e-mail today asking if I would consider fostering. I have no age, no sex no information...I have not even e-mailed her back yet I wanted to get your guys thoughts on the whole thing.

Email her back and get some details, age, sex, temperment, situation the dog was in. Answers to those questions will help you to determine if you think Hudson could handle fostering a Dane.

Make is PERFECTLY clear with the woman IF it does not work out she has to find another foster home.
Maybe you and Hudson could meet the Dane with the rescue woman on neutral grounds.

Did she say specifically she had a foster in mind for you or would you just be another foster house she could use? Does she know about Hudson and Hudson's special needs?

I would write her back get more info. Maybe even ask her to meet up for coffee if she's not too far from you - or at a dog park where Hudson and Great Dane could meet.

I also agree here. If you do contact her back, tell her right out that your gang MUST meet with potential dogs First before coming home to make well and sure its going to be OK. It is your own dogs house first, it is you who dictates who stays and who doesn't, not the rescue. It is fully up to you if you wish to do this at this time or not, at least with a foster your not tied down with a dog you paid to keep if it doesn't work, and if it does you have at least helped someone else.

I e-mailed her back....I told her about Hudson and Noodle....but only that Noodle sleeps 23hours out of a 24 hour day so she isnt a big concern. I mentioned that Hudson likes to be the domanant dog and I would need us to meet any potential dogs first. I asked her for the locat wesite as the one she has is not for Alberta(the prov that I live in).

I WANT WANT WANT a dane soooooo bad...I would love to foster one as well...but like I said Hudson comes first and if he cant handle it then I wont bother.

I also asked her about the danes she has that need homes...age, sex, all that good stuff.

I think you should try, you don't know that Hudson won't fall in love with her, at least I am hoping it is a female, I think this would be better for Hudson. Meet in a neutral place maybe a few times before you decide the bring the foster dog home with you.
