Exercise??
Hi everyone,
My dog Lilly is due in about 12 days now and I have been taking her for walks everyday still. She has gone done from 1-2 hours a day (pre pregnancy) to 15-30 minutes each day. She enjoys her walks but people have started saying that I'm pushing her too much and that she shouldn't be walking at all when she's this far along. I was just wondering what everybody thought about this? I'm not making her go for walks - she wants to. She hardly ever misses her daily walks so I don't see why she should have to now. I walked her all during her last pregnancy and she was fine. I'm planning on cutting it down to 15 minutes at the most soon. Is this too much?? Thanks! |

If Sharon goes for more than 10-15min she pukes!
Lilly will know when it's too much. Everything I have read says exercise is great, it helps with whelping! |

Thanks Kendra!
I also read that exercise is good for pregnant dogs but I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't having too much. Lilly gets sick if she plays catch too much but she still loves walking.

Excercise is good for pregnant dogs, it does help to keep them in shape for an easier delivery. However, do as you're already anticipating doing and cut the time down. Even though she enjoys it, the extra weight is still hard on them. They'll pretty much let you know how much they can/want. I let Molly outside to play with the others and sometimes she goes crazy and other times she just waddles around.

Thanks Patty!
I forgot to add that I take her for 2-3 walks a day. So she doesn't walk for 30 minutes non stop. It's more like 10 in the morning, 10 in the afternoon and then another 10 minutes before bed. I carry her the rest of the way

Oh, I know...I hope I'm wrong...can you imagine! Yikes...I think I'd be supplementing, alhough she has 13 nipples...I've never seen a dog with that many before. Most of the time they have 8 or 9...and they're all active ones and not dummy ones.

Lilly only has 7! I'm glad to know it's possible for them to have un-even numbers. Lilly's breeder said they normally have 6-8 but never an odd number. Don't know where she got that from!!

I was under the impression of them having an odd number of them so that there is room for the pups...spaced opposite each other gives the pups better accessability to them. Now, I've never had a female with an even number of them.
