Maybe fostering again
I got a freaked out phone call about a month ago from my friend Jack. When he called the first thing out of his mouth was "OMG! My dog is in the backyard screaming, and she's stuck to another dog! What do I do?" So I asked him if his dog was fixed and he said no, so I asked him if she was in heat, he said I don't know. Then I asked if she was stuck to the other dog butt to butt. He said yes.
I told him leave them alone and let them finish then make her an appointment to go to the vet and get spayed. He asked me why and I told him because he will be welcoming a litter of puppies if he doesn't. He didn't understand so I had to explain to him that the dogs had just bred. He then told me he didn't want to spay her because he wanted her to have puppies with his buddies dog that looks almost like her. (both mix breed dogs) But he didn't want her to have puppies with this "mutt". So I told him to call his vet and asked them to give him other options. This was a month ago. He called me today to tell me he talked to his vet and the vet gave him the same answer I did. He wont spay her so he's going to let her have the puppies. So I asked him what he was going to do with the puppies and he very non-chalantly(sp?) told me, that when she has them he's either going to put them in a shoe box and drop them off at the local (I did some checking its a kill shelter) shelter, or he's going to put them to sleep (but not take them to the vet to do it!!)! He's not even going to let her wheen them!! Just going to take them away from her and 'get rid' of them!So I told him I'd take them. The entire litter, the only thing I ask is that he let the mother dog nurse them till they are 6 weeks or let me take the mother dog and the pups till they are wheened. (I don't think he'd be willing to let them stick around for much longer than 6 weeks) It just makes me sick how stupid people are. I'm being nice to this guy only long enough to get hold of the puppies, then I'm never speaking to him again. This is the 2nd friend in a months time that I'm going to wash my hands of. I'm about ready to become a hermit in the mountains somewhere away from all human contact. I'm really starting to loose all faith in the human element. The father of this litter is a blue heeler looking dog, and the mother dog is a husky mix |

Do you think he will let you take mom until the pups are weaned? It is too bad you can take her and get her spayed for him so this does not happen again...
YOur doing a good thing....try to keep your head up we are here for you. |

I feel the same way you do. I have become a hermit and have a total of 3 friends at the age of 21 because I have washed my hands of all of my other friends because they just have no common sense at all. Unfortunately this world is going down hill as the generations are changing.
Atleast these puppies will have a chance with you but its unfortunate that this person will keep doing this and I am upset that other puppies this dog has may not get the same chance as these other puppies will

It seems that way, I know, but in reality your comment could have been written at any point in human history. Nothing has changed in human nature since we figured out how to make fire...

Well this dumb A$$ has now informed me he wont decide what he's doing till they get here. (if the breeding took and I'm praying it didn't) And that decision will be made dependant on what the babies look like! But he keeps saying this is something he needs to deal with on his own. (He's acting like he went out to a bar and got a one night stand pregnant. Thats how he's coming across to me)
He actually said he's worried if he lets his dog nurse these pups they will ruin his dog for having pups with a 'good' dog. I've been trying to convince him to get her fixed but he wont do it. Says he wants to breed her atleast once with his buddy's dog. Well I think I'm going to prepare for them and just hope he comes to his senses and calls me to come get them. If he doesn't want to keep them till they are wheened I'd be more than happy to take, and house mom till they are old enough to be taken away from her. Maybe I'll be lucky and Cali would adopt them and start nursing them so I wouldn't have to worry about it. She's done it before. (with a kitten, and with Adora) But thats not something I'd bet the farm on of coarse. I know they would get plenty of socializing and pack experience at my place even if they were taken away from her at 6 weeks. My guys would help me tons with that. Plus my husband and son are suckers for puppies just like me. My neighbors are also big helpers with the socializing. They were always coming over and "barrowing" Cali and Luke's pups and playing with them(after they were over 6wks old). |
