Question My friend, my dog, but what breed?

About a year ago while visiting some in-laws I found a dog, or rather he found me lol.
My in-law's place was right on the side of the highway, it had been raining all week and we were all sitting on the porch talking, We looked out on the highway after hearing a car honk it's horn and veer, we saw a little grey dig, he was hard to see because he was the same color as the road.
he came right up to us and jumped into my lap, the poor thing was wet and matted, starved to the point of his skeleton showing and tired from an obviously very long journey.
I took him in right away, first looking for any people who might have owned him and after returning home descided to keep him and give him a proper name, Mr. Bo Jangles, or B.J. for short.
I cleaned him up and found that he must be one of the better bred dogs, though I have no idea exactly what breed, I am asking that anyone who knows please tell me, I only have one good photo of him after I brought him home and cleaned him when he still had his long hair, (It's trimmed very short now) so you can see what he looks like naturaly.

Him when I first brought him home.

Profile of him now, (he's just had his fur butchered by a very bad groomer.. *myself* lol, but I am learning.

My favorite pic of him.

Yes he is, up until him I'd never had a dog that fetched frisbees, played with twigs and caught tennis balls before, he's good with children and a wonderful people dog, because he loves everyone!
Basically the perfect story book pup, I'm so proud of him.

Hmmmmmm.... How big is he? Size, height? He looks quite long.

I might be seeing some Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen.

He kinds looks like Benji! he he.. before you cut the hair.. maybe shi tzu? After the hair cut.. no idea. In all three pictures he looks so different it's really hard to say what breed.. the second pic looks like some kind of terrier.. and then the third looks like a bichon/yorkie thing mix.

First thing I thought when I saw him is that he might be a Skye Terrier mix, or a Skye with ears that just never stood up.
