teething

does anyone have any idea how to tell if your dog is teething? do the baby teeth wiggle and fall out like humans? approximately(sp) at what age would this start, i understand all breeds are different. how long will it last after the first tooth falls out. should i be giving any supplements during this time period? the groomer said that calcium gets diverted to the teeth during teething.

I have had many adolescent dogs go through teething. The only things I did differently was to provide them with plenty of raw meaty bones to chew on. I also took rope toys soaked in water, froze them then gave them to my teething pups. I have never changed their diet due to teething.

the reason i asked about the diet, is because westie ears are supposed to stand up, when they teethe and the calcium goes to the teeth, their ears fold over. i want Sweeney's ears to stand like they're supposed to, and wondered if there was anything i could give him to replace or supplement the calcium his ears usually get.

Yup they wiggle. Around the gum line they also turn reddish. They lose teeth from 4-6 mos. They should have lost all deciduous teeth by 6 months.

Ollie got mouth sensitive when he was losing his teeth.. hating me grabbing his mouth. You'll be able to notice.

I saved about 8 of Kirby's. Most be the time he was 5 months. At 18 months, he still had some retained, so the vet removed them.

Sammy's teeth wiggled a lot, and whenever he played iwht a toy and put it in his mouth, he bled a little and got small amounts of blood all over his toys, but it wasn't an immense amount. THis was especially when he ate bones, but he didn't seem to mind it at all. It should be pretty easy to notice if your dog is teething.

our vet said thats common with westies too, he said we have to wait till Sweeney loses the canines before we can get him fixed, that way if he's retained any of the little ones, they'll pull them while he's under for the neuter, a 'two-fer'!
