Please tell me if it is rabies in dog

2 recent days my dog produces more saliva. His jaw is hanging open with tongue hanging out and saliva dribbling out of the mouth. Is it rabies? I have searched for rabies information. It is said that the symtoms of rabies are:
"PRODROMAL STAGE (the first 1 and 1/2 days after syptoms have started)
Friendly animals become shy etc.
Change in tone of the dog's bark
Chewing at the bite site
Fever
Loss of appetite
Subtle changes in behavior"
My dog shows no symtoms like those.

Please tell me if it is rabies or just because the weather in my country is too hot now ( 40 degree while the normal temperature is 30 degree) and he is taking a lot of medicines (among of them are phenobarbital, paracetamol, vitamine E, ).

Well, first... is he not vaccinated against rabies? And what happened that makes you suspect rabies?

But I don't think so.

He could have been vacinated uf he hadn't suffered from canine distemper. He has been treated for it for 3 months. I hope you are right, it's not rabies.

I think rabies can be transfered by biting only. Is it right? I am sure that my dog wasn't bited by any dog.

It can transmitted by raccoons, skunks, squirrels and many other animals, not just dogs.

Exactly. Dogs with rabies are rarely the problem. The problem is your dog getting rabies from other wild animals.

Well, although rabies is very doubtful, it would be a good thing to find out what he does have. Any other unusual observations? Anything weird coming out of either end? Maybe he has a blockage?

Dogs often drool more when stressed (any change in routine) or overheated. Have you noticed him drinking more water?

Rabies is transmitted from contact with other rabid animals. Has your dog has any run ins or disappeared. There is no cure for rabies.

You should phone your vet and see if there have been any rabies outbreaks lately. It will ease your mind.

If you suspect rabies, are you quarentining your dog? That would be my first step. For me, second step would be to call my vet.

I hope your dog is alright!

Is your dog's belly enlarged? if so, your dog could be suffering the discomfort of excess gas that he is not getting rid of properly. I would take the dog in to see your vet and have him looked over throughly. Some times dogs can get stressed out and get gassy, this can lead to the dog bloating and eventual torsion where the tummy can flip over.
Either way, if its gas or if you suspect rabies get the dog into the vet as soon as possible. If the dog is suffering from excess gas then the vet can give you some thing to give next time your dog suffers from the discomfort of gas. I also rub my dogs belly's after each meal and I feed 2-3 smaller meals throughout the day.
Good luck to you, and be sure to have your dog looked over by a vet as as possible.

I think it's because I have given him too much phenobarbital ( three time of the proper dose). You know, he has to use phenobarbital to treat permanent twiches after canine distemper. I reduce the dose know and the saliva he produces reduces so much. And some other people said it is also because of paracetamol.

About your question, My dog doesn't have any run ins or disappeared. He is using phenobarbital so he drink too much and eat too much so his belly enlarged. I don't know if it is a symtom of discomfort of excess gas.
