Question My dog pees himself... Why?

My dog Snoopy is a little over 14 months old and he just started this strange behavior. But he will sit down next to me and urinate himself. Then he shakes and lowers his head, almost as though he is ashamed. Is there anyone who can give me some advice to correct this? It seems so cruel to yell at him for this and I am not one to swat his bottom for things like this. I am against raising a hand to an animal. And this seems to me, that it could be psychological but I am unsure as to what to do and what could be causing this.

Sounds like you need to contact a behaviorist to evaluate all behaviors and get to the core issues. This is the ultimate form of submission and can also be related to anxiety.

I had a dog that used to wet himself every time I came home. It took a good 3 to 4 months before this stopped. He was a rescue so I don't know if he was nervous or scared he would get in trouble. I would always walk him outside before greeting him or if he did this before I was able to get him out, I calmly walked him outside.

Has he been to a vet? When I read your post, I thought physical versus behaviorial. Is he a twitchy dog? Easily intimidated? Does he do this when he first greets you as well?

If not raising a hand, have you been very vocally stern with his training? Verbal can be just as intimidating if not worse than a swat.

Almost sounds like he's scared to death of disappointing you.

First thing I'd do is have a Vet do a urinalysis to see if there is a UTI or anything like that going on. If not, please find a behaviorist to help you.

Has he been to the vet and check for any sign of infection? That would be the first place I start looking for an answer, then I would move on to training and behavior.

Thank you all so very much for the help. I am contacting a vet tomorrow morning and my fiance and I are trying to note how we are reacting too. I don't want this to be something we are doing and not notice it. I want to fix this problem. I would hate to be the cause of all this. Again thank you everyone.
