Stressing Again!

I am just a worrywort. Just tell me to shut up. But Greta is off her food again. She didn't eat at all last night, she ate about 1/2 this morning when I hand fed her, but would not voluntarily touch her food, and tonight, neither worked.

I am assuming that Greta is a bit sore from walking on the pavement. She is not used to it. It was always grass or gravel previously. I know that both of my knee joints are killing me. But this weekend Greta wouldn't let me stretch her joints, which I normally do every couple of days because of her soreness. She fought me even touching her one back leg. So I have doubled her gloucosamine and I put her on canine aspirin for a couple of days.

So, do I assume that her lack of appetite is because I have upped her meds? None of the meds are prescription, just vet recommended. I have done it before without an appetite influence from Greta. Is she just over stressed from everything? The move, the walks, instead of free running? Or do I just ignore her and her cry for attention? Because she is getting a lot right now because she is acting this way.

But this makes Greta off her food 3 times within a month. Now obviously she does start eating again, but recently she has become such a slow eater and she has allowed both boys in her dish, which was NEVER allowed on
Greta-terms before.

Aspirin can upset the stomach too. I know that she has similar issues to Dax with her HD compared to Dax's arthritis. Dax eats very slowly and Ariel ends up cleaning the bowl most meals. I assume if she gets hungry enough, she'll guard it even if she's not eating it.

Are you using buffered aspirin, baby aspirin, or escriptin? Those are coated and easier on the stomach. However, all aspirin does cause some stomach upset. Also, in the long run will cause GI ulcer.. so don't use it too much! She probably is a little off from the meds..

Hope she gains her appetite again.

It is canine aspirin that she is on. The chewables from Vet Balance I think?? I am not at home right now to check.

Still, not eating this morning. Ugh. I hate it when she does this to me. She has gotta do it on purpose to stress me out.

What kind of meds ?

My friend has a Long Haired German Pointer and this dog has arthritis and otehr joint related problems. She gives her dog Colostrum( for calves ). The same stuff you would feed to a calf or orphaned foal. It is the first thing a mother gives to her baby in the mothers milk. It has helped her dog immensely. You can also give your dog Glucosamine and condrotin, the same stuf you and I would take for our joints.

Colostrum can be bought at any feed store that sells livestock feed and comes in bags of about 1 LB. It is fed on top of dry dog food or mixed into wet food. You feed about a tablespoon in the morning and at night, dry or mixed with water. It looks like powdered milk. It really made a huge difference in her dog.
