Why Wolf Hybrids don't make good pets

All four of our wolf hybrids are rescues all taken from homes unfit to keep these animals they are not meant to be pets and should not even be bred.

They can be unpredictable. They must remain in a pen when unsupervised. When you have them out of the pen - they must be leashed. They have been known to kill other pets. They have a strong predatory instinct. This means that they may hunt and kill livestock and your neighbor's pets if they escape. If you give them up to a humane shelter, they will be immediately euthanized. They cannot be placed in an adoptive home by the humane organization. This is due to the shelter's concern over their liability should the wolf hybrid cause problems for the new owner. They are wolves, so they howl at night. Many neighborhoods and communities outlaw excessive canine noise. They are powerful animals which means a bite from them hurts

Just some food for thought

Since there shouldn't be any wild wolves in Australia - how are these hybrids coming to be? Are there people who have imported wild wolves actually breeding them with dogs to sell?

Exactly what you said this is how it has happened wolf dogs are being bred and sold not to societies pleasure. I did'nt not know moving to Australia there would be wolf hybrids here our rescue was originally just for normal stray dogs. But then we got our first hybrid. My husband and I moved here from america and so we were no strangers to the breed. We have learned the breed is growing in popularity here and we only own 4. The breeding needs to stop if people what a wolf like dog get a husky or a German Shepherd these dogs are too dangerouse to be bred and sold with out a second thought.

The people across the way from us used to have (she got sick and they had to put her down) a wolf/GSD mix that terrified me. This was before we got Gretta. Sidney and I used to sneak past their place in hopes that the animal wouldn't hear us and come out. She never attacked us but would slink along behind as if stalking us. It was very unnerving. She also would come into our fields and I couldn't even take Sidney out there to play. I told the neighbors if they didn't keep her up, I'd call animal control. They kept her up after that during the day and would let her run on her own at night. When I discovered what they were doing, I again, told them they needed to keep her up ALL the time as sooner or later she'd kill someones animal/s and they would be sued royally! That was the last time I saw the animal but I'd hear her howling at times. You can't cross a wolf and a dog and expect it to be a trustworthy family pet.

Exactly your right and thats what people think. Wolf dogs tend to attack more and more often they have the power of and look of a wolf but the personality of a dog. Their dangerouse.

I would never trust such a creature in my house. Theres a regular at the park i go to that has a dog with Wolf in him. Hes a great because of his upbringing but nothing can kill genetics.

You have four? Do that have a pack mentality? Alpha and then 3 betas? I always thought it was very poorly underestimated. Glad you know what you are doing.

I really hate people who breed wolves and dogs and wolf hybrids. I love wolves but would never ever go as far as to own or breed a wolf hybrid. We have a coyote mix and I will tell anyone to never ever get a dog that has wild animal in them. They usually do not make great pets. Ours the other day took off and tried to attack a little boy for just getting 10 feet near her.
My sister wanted a wolf hybrid but what made me angry was the fact that she only wanted one to show off. Wolves should stay where they belong which is in the wild. I am glad that you have made this rescue. I agree on everything you said!
