Wobblers is a genenic disease, and you can have your puupy/dog tested for it. Dobermans are prone to this and our's were both tested, as were the parents to make sure that is would not affect them.
It is not curable.

Hi,
My mother's Doberman had Wobbler's Syndrome. Hers progressed rapidly and became painful. We took Princess to Michigan State Veterinary school for surgery. First they do a myelogram where they send a dye through and take x-rays to see where the spinal canal is compressing. Then they open them up and clean out any debris and fuse the vertebrae together for stability. The surgery was pretty expensive (about$3000), but very successful for her. The only problem we had was when one of her pins worked loose and poked through her skin. The vet did warn us that this surgery is iffy and doesn't always work, but it sure did for her. She was back to her old self in no time. Lisa and Haley Last edited by every76years; 05-20-2005 at 10:37 AM. Reason: misspelling |
