sweeney's lump.

Sweeney has a lump on his leg. we're treating it as a mosquito bite, but its been there since friday and isn't going down. the vet said he will call for follow up the end of the week, and mentioned histiocytoma. he did say they usually occur in older puppies, and take a while to form, not instantaneously. this just showed up between thursday night and friday afternoon. i check him everytime i groom him. i was looking at Dax's health sticky and saw the post on mast tumors. with everything else going on with Sweeney, this part about mast tumors makes sense "They release histamine when stimulated Histamine causes signs of allergies such hives Histamine increases stomach acid production"
the vet said he's fairly certian if its not a mosquito bite, its a histiocytoma, but looking at pictures of each, show an ugly large lump protruding from the skins surface, Sweeney's lump looks exactly the way a mosquito bite looks on a human.

Oh I hope it is nothing serious and just a mosquito bite. But then again mosquitos carry diseases that can be passed onto dogs.

I would not worry too much, keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Clifford had what sounds similiar not too long ago, it took a while but finally did go away slowly.

Hi!
My mother's Doberman had a histiocytoma removed a few months ago. It was the size of a large marble and really red and ugly. I'm thinking this may be the dtart of a sebaceous cyst. Mast cell tumors are usually pretty ugly.

pictures...

the first two were on friday, the last two five minutes ago, they're not that great as it's not really red, its more light white like a welt, or hive.

the vet didnt suggest ringworm even though he looked at it with magnifying goggles. i would rather it be ringworn than a tumor. it doesnt look as engorged as pics of either tumor or cyst looked. i'm going to see if the vet will aspirate thursday (if only for peace of mind) i'd rather spend the $ to find out its only a bug bite, than ignore it and have it be much worse.

They don't look like Dax's tumors. Even dogs get skin irregularities. Doesn't look serious and can likely wait til your next visit.

he doesnt have any visits scheduled, he has 8 teeth left to lose before the vet will schedule his Neuter, 4 of which are wiggly, but the canines still won't budge. i know for sure if i wait, it will be easier financially, but the vet was concerned enough to want to follow up this week. i'm crossing my fingers its only a mosquito bite, or spider bite(i've had those last for a while too). with the mention of roundworm, he's on interceptor, thats supposed to control(?) adult roundworm, whatever that means.

Yes interceptor will control round worm, but not ring worm. Ring worm is more of a fungus than a parasite.

Good luck with Sweeney! I hope all turns out well
