Rare Breed - How do I adopt?

Lately I have been reading up on a certain dog species that I deary adore, they are Jackals, Many of these dogs have had problems with natural predators and hunters, I saw a picture of one who had it's leg bitten off and it was so pathetic I almost cried.
There are pet shops in Cairo Egypt that have Jackals that they adopt out to the people there, but I am in the US, how would I adopt one and bring it here?

Open to correction, I believe they would be considered exotic and dangerous animals, and likely illegal to own in the US. They are indeed a natural predator of Africa... It would be kind of like having a leopard as a pet.

Not really, I worried about that first but I read an ariticle on them that said if they were domesticated as pups they would be no more harmful than any other dog, they can be taught tricks and how to walk on a leash and be housebroken, which is amazing to me.

It's probably considered exotic, not domestic, not wild, not feral, but exotic. A sugar glider or fennec fox is considered exotic. Some states in the US allow certain exotics others don't. I would check with your local laws to see whether exotic animals are allowed, if it isn't specified.. then contact someone to find out. It would be a shame if your "pet" was taken away.

For example, Ferrets are considered exotic and banned in California. However are allowed in other US states. I would first find out, then pursue getting the animal.

Too True! Sugar Gliders and wolves and wolf hybrids are also banned in CA, that's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more....

Okay I will check, but if it turns out that they are not illegal then how would I get one?
Does anyone know of a place that breeds or keeps them anywhere?
And if I find one what would be the safest way to transport him?

I can't seem to find any exotic pages that have jackals..

BUT, I did find.. a two toed sloth for sale, kinkajous, monkeys, and wallabies.. and more.

For a second I think.. that could be fun.. but then I realize owning exotic animals is a LOT of work. They all come with special needs, that are often not realistic or just too much. I owned a sugar glider for a couple months.. cute little ******.. but too much work for me. I ended up selling him to someone who had time and really wanted him. I would do LOTS of research and find a vet who knows how to treat/vaccinate and other things to your "jackal".

Good luck.

Sorry I am so amused by this sloth thing.. check it out for yourselves

http://www.usfreeads.com/353988-cls.html

I seriously thought about it.. until I got to the part about having it in a humid climate. She looks like ET. But how cute would that be.. a sloth climbing around.. hanging out in a laundry basket?? ha ha.. I need to stick to dogs..

WHOA.. just read the part.. only defecates once or twice weekly?! who wouldn't want this thing??

although.. ferrets are cute and legal in co.. hmm.. jus kidding

Lol, ferrets are very vicious, they can kill a dog just so ya know.....

I think its interesting to get a jackal, but they will always have their wild instincts in them, so dont be suprised if it bites alot!

The only way that I could think of you getting one was maybe having it shipped from egypt to your state? Or you flying to Egypt? But there are probably other ways. But also it would be hard because there are different diseases that your pet could catch, diseases that maybe only that type of animal can get, OR only Egypt could get...
