Congratulations!
The next one should be there soon! But it could take up to an hour. Personally I'd keep the puppy suckling until she starts pushing again, it should make it come quicker plus it's excellent for the puppy! Lilly's arrived about 30 minutes after and then 20 minutes apart for the rest. Do you have warm blankets and a heat-pad (or covered hot water bottle) in with the baby? If not that's probably a good idea! Good luck and keep us posted! Last edited by Blaze; 05-29-2005 at 08:04 AM. |

How exciting! Congratz!
Do you know if the pupp is a male or female? Hopefully the rest of the pups will come soon. I've heard that the 1st puppy takes the longest and is hardest for the mom. Maybe you oldest kid can take care of the younger ones while you are taking care of trigger. If he/she doesn't want to bribe he/she with money. Always works for me with my nephews. Puppies and kittens always seem to be born at a time of most inconvienence. Keep us updated, |

My computer battery went dead in the middle of this, Trigger's first was a black female, her second was a yellow female (MINE!) the bad thing was the yellow had a twin, they were in the same bag, the yellow came out first, was still connected by the cord when her placenta and twin popped out, the twin was almost totally developed but only 1/4 the size of the yellow, do dogs have the twin to twin syndrome where on gets everything and the other suffers because of it? It was born dead. She then had a BIG black male, we are calling him Hoss. They are all nursing great and now asleep. Trigger has been laboring, (not hard) since the last for almost 2 hours, I know their is at least 1 more in them, I think truly 2. How long until I should start worrying about the possibility of something being wrong?
Thanks again for the help!! Husband made it home after #2. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Called the vet and he said basically she will have them when she has them, that being she has had 3 already he is sure she is fine. It has been 3 hours or so since the last, He is sure she has more in there. I felt one, so who knows. She was bred naturally so I expected more than 3 or 4. If we had done AI I would not have been surprised at those numbers. I just wish I KNEW, so I would know whether to worry or not.
Have the heat lamps on the babies, it is 80' they are nursing like champs!!!!!!!!! Momma has had some cottage cheese (for milk to come in) and some Kara and water. Wish us more luck!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I usually give 1ml of Oxytocin if there's been 2 or more hours between deliveries. Also, make sure that you're feeling a pup and not her uterus! It can be VERY deceiving because it's so big. You'll know when she's done because she'll look totally relaxed and will get very tired (you'll see the reds of her eyes too), unless she's like Molly and FALLS ASLEEP during her labor!! Talk about laid back, huh?! Did you get all the placentas for each pup?! Another thing you need to check for. I've heard of twins, but never knew anyone that it's happened to. We were just talking about it yesterday! It's really a freak thing when it happens. I'm sorry to hear that the one didn't make it! But, congratulations on getting a new baby girl for yourself as well as a new litter!
They get to share my daughter's birthday with her! She's 12 today, let's hope that's not how many pups you'll have though!
