Proud To Be A Back Yard Breeder!!!

I am sitting here at 4:10 in the morning after my first hour of sleep tonight. You all know I was banned off a forum because the man considered me a BYB. I came up with some questions I would like to ask him and others who take a hard line against breeding that sees no gray area, black or white, nothing else.

How many back yard breeders do you know would pay a $1000.00 stud fee to breed their girl to the, "right male?"

How many BYB waits 2 years to get their dogs eyes and hips certified before they would even consider breeding them?

How many BYB take their females in on an almost weekly basis to be checked by the vet?

How many BYB feed their dogs the very BEST dog food, and vitamins?

How many BYB dogs live in the house with them, sleep on the floor next to their owners bed?

How many BYB when something feels wrong will go against the advice of their Vet and find a new one the very same day to make sure nothing happens to their dog?

How many BYB would pay a $55.00 an hour emergency calls & all other normal charges extra?

How many BYB when the Vet asks what you want to do if there is something wrong with her uterus, should he spay it says, I dont care, just save my baby and her babys?

How many BYB children stay up with a sick puppy until 2 in the morning, hoping against all hope, and helping against all odds that puppy will pull through?

How many BYB children at the age of 7 can sex a puppy?

How many BYB can tell a litter of 9 apart by the end of the 1st day? Know them by name?

How many BYB has Momma nurse in 2 shifts, helps the puppies on a nipple, makes sure they stay on a nipple, knows how to make them pee and poop?

How many BYB decide to make the whelping box their bed too so they can keep a good eye on the puppies?

How many BYB sit with a puppy who did not make it through the night trying with all their might to get it to come back?

How many BYB mourn the loss of that baby and ache for what might have been? The ducks it could have retrieved, the family it could have loved, the happiness it would have given?

How many BYB after all is said and done considers it a success to mearly break even?

How many BYB grieve and ache every day for the loss of the pups who did not make it?

If people consider this a Back Yard Breeder, then I am proud to say I am one!!!

Melissa

Yeah! Ain't it great to be a BYB?!! It's such a CHEAP and rewarding "hobby", isn't it?! We should make up some bumper stickers...."Proud to be a BYB!" I think you should go back to that forum and post that for them to have something to think/ponder about/over!

But, here's my concern...while we LOVE to hear updates on both you and the kids...WHY are you here and not getting more sleep??????? Now, GO AND GET SOME SLEEP!!!!!

Melissa, that is wonderful. I am very proud of you and your love and commitment to your family. Don't let anyone take that away from you. People are always so quick to judge and feel a need to force their morales on everyone else. And look at what those people missed out on?

I admit that I know that I can be very difficult towards some that talk about breeding. Usually, it is because they have a precious girl and think that she would be a great momma. That is usually what starts it for me. Now, if they could read the stories of what our breeders go through while whelping and raising a litter, I think they would realized that it is not as easy a just "having puppies".

Now, when you first started posting here, it seemed to me like you knew what you were doing and seemed like you have beed doing this for a long time. Take that as a compliment.

Every breeder has to start somewhere. You started it right. You didn't go and buy a male and a female and then had puppies. You bought pups that have some awesome lines, you have them tested for genetic disorders, and then you picked the best stud for your girl.

There is a thread around here from a while ago about what people thought or how they classified the difference between a BYB, a professional breeder and a puppy mill. It is interesting. Now Greta is the product of a true BYB. So it is a touchy subject with me. But yes, when we took her, we knew what kind of breeder she came from, we were just trying to help her. I will have to see if I can find the thread

lissadi, I think you just need to forget about the other forum, we are way better on here Don't let him get to you, we had a discussion about BYBs a few months ago about what does and doesn't constitute a BYB... IMO you certainly don't fall in to that category!

You are a great mommy, so don't let some other ignorant people get you down.

So when do we get to see some puppy pictures????

The first thread has impressed me a bunch, By DaxAriel'sToys, "I have my own opinions but am interested in what you guys think. Just a reminder here-its an opinion question, there might be people here whose opinions differ from yours."

NOW THAT IS AN A+++++++++++++ MODERATOR!!!!!!!

Katie, thanks for the kind words, It did not just take me 62 days to get to this point. It started 3 years ago when I decided this is what I wanted to do, it started 2 1/2 years ago when after researching, I started looking for, "the female," it started 2 years ago when I bought Trigger, and every moment since!!!

PitsRGood is an unknown quantity at this point
breeding

You have my full support. I think that breeding in a home enviroment is best. Kennels often leave their dogs in cages whereas a home breeder is giving the dogs a more socialized enviroment. I have 6 APBTs and breed occassionally. My dogs are so loving because of how they were raised. They sleep with my kids in their beds and do everything with us. You are right about spending the money on stud fees. You are taking the time to look into blood lines and research before you breed! I applaud you.
