Shih-Tzu's

Anyone have them...or any toy breed. I have 2 shih-Tzu's...one at my feet now...I love her.

My Alex is 11 (he is da-BOMB) and Audrey is just 10 months...I so love this breed, so loving!!!

However, I learned one thing about this breed (or any breed with a short neck) the hard way. DO NOT let them jum from up high (ie. off the couch or bed...anything like that) as years of doing this causes disk problems in their necks. My Poor Alex's disks in his neck slipped out when he was just 8...it has been a struggle ever since...I so HATE seeing him in pain, but there is nothing I can do. Could try an experimental operation (for about $10,000) at Tuffs in Boston which fuses the neck...but that too had health implications.

Please if you own/plan to own a Tzu or other breed gog with a snall neck (pickanease (sp) lasa's and pugs come to mind) Do Not EVER let the jump off the furnature...pick them up and place them down...or just don't ever let them up (not an option for my spoiled pups) to save them from years of pain and yourself from MEGA costly Vet bills....I also take Alex to a puppy Chiropractor when his neck starts acting up....not a pretty bill folks.

Look forward to chattting with more TZU/Toy pup owners!!!

Hi Vinni! Welcome.
I have 3 toys myself. A toy poodle/bi-chon frise Ozzy &
2 'teddy' mixes (toy poodle/bi-chon/shih-tzu)Sharon & Pandy.
Love them all. I've never been one for little dogs but
these are just perfect! Sharon is 22lbs (HUGE) Ozzy is 12
and little Pandy is about 10..but I think the scale
was wrong on her! Do you have pics?

Thanks for the info on jumping. All 3 of mine have longer necks than
a pure Shih-tzu tho. That is a trait the breeder was trying to
avoid while pulling in that incredible shi personality!! They are so great!

Hey Kendra...Nice to meet you...You pups are georgous....I so wanna cuddle them....but audrey is taking up my lap now...trying to type too...silly gal.

Yeah the neck this turned out to be a huge deal for me and my poor beloved Alex....So glad your pups have longer necks and most likely will not go through the pain my poor Alex is.

I got a few pic's for you too....Alex is the larger (only 12 lbs however) and darker of the two. Audrey is the snow bunny.

Have more Pic's of them on my intro thread..."Vinni is here"...they will not let me re-post them here - Grrrr. But that thread has the best Pic of Alex...blind eye and all.

Again, nice to meet you!!!

What adorable Pups...great pic too!!! Not sure if it is true, but I read recently that Tzu's LOVE the cold...Audrey proves that...Alex would rather snuggle indoors

I moved Pandy to the bed now, she looks ummmm not really thrilled with the new locale! Sharon is by the front door waiting fo Kody to come home.
Ozzy is starring at me, wonder what's up? LOL He 'tells' on the girls!
We have lots in common! I'm glad you came to this forum.
Hope you live up to that rave review of being a HOOT!
Love hoots here!

Yours are toxic too huh? I dont get it, youd think these little ones could not smell so bad. Annie has a stench that outdo's all 3 of the big dogs, even if they went in the same spot!! Stinky Girl!!

Anyone haveany success with a different food that helps with that?
