right now if your baby is little use a pin brush or a zoom groom( ask at the petstore or a groomer they will show you what it looks like) for now shedding blades are great but don't use it on his legs the hair is thinner there and you could scratch is skin. I use an undercoat rake for my hairy dogs with a ST you would need one with long teeth to get in to all of that coat.

have fun with your new kid

be very careful when brushing your dogs, dogs have more sensitive skin than most people think and you can easily brush burn them. Do not pres down hard nor do to long in the same spot, yet make sure you get down to the skin (other wise his under coat will get matted and then the likelyhood of getting brush burn once someone actually does try to get that out will be alot higher) the best is to use a dryer that will puc the hair around til you can see the skin brush there then move the dryer up a little and brush their.
FOr a long haired dog such as yours will be you should use a firm slicker brush (looks like the one in exiles post) then after you brush out a spot take a comb to it before you move on. Be very careful with rakes as well, they can cause brush burn (as can most things)
Shedding blades may work now but once his hair gets long I don't think it will help much, they aren't made for long haired dogs. If you would like to thin your dogs hair out a bit use what's called a Coat King.
