Question English Bulldog owners???

After reading through some of the posts I'm almost scared to ask this question for fear of the response I might get, but I would really like to talk to some people with personal experience raising an English Bulldog, so I guess I'm going to chance it.

I'm getting my puppy in early August and have done extensive research on them, but was wondering if anyone had any special advice from personal experience on training as well as any other aspects of bully ownership. I'm very excited about getting him since I have wanted one for over 4 years now. Look forward to talking to y'all.

My associate at work has a "Bully Breed" and he is quite the character. I haven't owned one personally but have met a few who are real sweethearts.

I hope you share pictures of your dog which ever breed you finally end up getting.

Here he is not too long after he was born. Sorry about the date, it's kind of off. He was born on June 3 so I will be able to get him the first week in August!!!!!!

Ha ha ha. Wow, that was really quick. Yes, he is a boy and he was born in FL. I am playing around with a few different names, but I am waiting until I get him to see which name fits him the best. Right now I'm leaning towards British authors since he is an English Bulldog. What else would you like to know?

I have trained a few English Bulldogs and my best advice is laugh alot and be ready to wait until he is good and ready for him to do what you aks him to do. but they are very funny to live with.

he is one cute little boy good luck

Quinstar I think sabrina has a english bulldog. She might be of some good help for you. Personally, I love the breed. My brother wants to get one when he is done with school so I have been doing a bit of research into breeders and some health and behavioral issues for him. I just can't get over how cute they are.

And the best news yet, is that we have 2 bullie at the clinic due at the end of June/early part of July that will be scheduled c-sections. I am so excited!

if it's worth anything to you Quinstar, i have some experience with bulldogs and my one piece of advise that i can give is simply this: be consistant with your puppy, if you tell him off for getting on the furnature, for example, dont bring him up onto it at a later time. this just sends mixed messages to the pup and confusion can lead to having a nightmare for a dog. And for his sake don't try to over excersize him/her at first, a gradual build up is absolutely essential for this breed. regards Clive Treliving.

Thanks so much for everyone's friendly and helpful responses.

Clive, I have read that English Bulldogs don't really require that much exercise and that overdoing it can lead to serious health problems, yet not enough can lead to a very fat dog which is not healthy either. Any advice on how to find a happy medium between these two extremes?

GretaJack, thanks for telling me about Sabrina. I'm sure her experiences would be very helpful.

Again, thanks to everyone for their friendliness and willingness to offer up advice.
