Rudy got a boo boo

Tonight when I got home from my friend's house I was petting Rudy and felt something wet, I located the area and found a huge scrape, its about 2 inches long, and about 1 inch wide. It's on the front part of his elbo area. All the hair in that area is completly gone, and some of it was bloody, the rest was just hairless. So far I have cleaned it with a warm rag, dried it, and put some bacitracin on it, but he keeps licking at it.
Should I let him lick it? Or should I try to cover it with a gauze pad and some self-sticking wrap?

Is it just a scrtch, or a deeper cut? I would say if you cleaned it, and any bleeding is stopped, a little licking would be ok.
Keep an eye on it, I think you will be able to tell if his licking it is a negative effect.

Do you know what happened? I agree with Dobermom. Be sure to check it often to make sure it's starting to heel and doesn't get infected.

It's not really deep, but deep enough in spots that it bleeds. I have no clue what happened to him. My parents think it might have been from when he jumped down this cement thingie by our garage while he was chasing a squirrel. Both of them told me that it happened while he was outside, and that while he was out there they heard him yelp but didn't know why.
