I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any experiance with training there dog to track, hunt or anything along these lines. I've gotten about half a dozen books from the library, but most are at least 15 years old and I can tell the training techniques are older. If anyone knows any good books, websites or anything it would be appriciated. The only sites I can find are ones that want you to ship your dog to them and let them train it.

Here in Edmonton, there are "kennels" specializing in "HOUND" dog training. You would go to classes. If you look in the phone book under kennels and/or dog training there might be someone local who can give you a six week starter. PS 15 year old for training a hunting dog is nothing. Man has been using our companions for 100+ years and if the training didn't work - they went hungry.

I would recommend "Scent and the Scenting Dog"
It is the basis we use to train our police k9's at work. At least to start them out. |
