Need Help Asap
My 5 lb Pom puppy is having REALLY bad diarreaha today and tonight. Does anyone know if there's anything I can give her (people medication) that would hold her over until the vet opens tomorrow? I've already tried Pepto and that hasn't helped.
I have some old prescription Flagyl (Metronizanole) which was prescipbed several years ago for another dog. But, it's 5 years old and I'm, too afraid to use it. What about Imodium? If you have an answer for me, can you please post as soon as possible? Thanks, Debbie

Rice works good for feeding the dog. Also I heard Starvation for 24 hours but..that sounds a lil cruel.

Dax used Immodium with her Rottweiler, but I'm not sure how that would go with a tiny dog.
How about some fibre? Metamucil? Be sure to keep her hydrated. Give bland food and lots of water. |

once again, my cure all for diaherria, if the dog will eat it is canned pumpkin. It has never failed me, if I can get the dog to eat it. But within hours the stool starts to firm up. My vet in Massachusetts told me about canned pumpkin, but since then no one else has ever heard of it. But it is perfectly safe to give your dog and it works!

as much as she is willing to eat! honestly, there is no way pumpkin can hurt them. It is just that most dogs don't like it.

Also, this is just something I do for my horse, but maybe something to think about for dogs too? Yogurt contains probiotics which can help with some cases of loose stooles as well. You may want to check on that with somebody else, but I just thought I'd toss the idea out there. I know I've done it with my horse before, but I can't remember if I've ever used this technique for my dog too or not.

I give thumbs up to yoghourt, and similar thing with cottage cheese. However, I'd look at what the poop is caused by... Some things I don't think would work if caused by a virus compared to stress/change in diet.
