Hello. I just picked up a 6 week old Miniature Pinscher. I love him to death, but when I leave him alone he will whin and yelp like crazy. I live in a condo and I walked over two units and I can still hear them. I'm afraid my adjacent neighbors will complain when I go to work after this long weekend.
Is he yelp/whining cause he is still young? What can I do to remediate this problem. |

It is. 6 weeks is really a little too young to be taken from mom. A warming blanet, a clock or radio, a stuff toy are all good things to help her/him adjust. Let your neighbors know it's temporary and should go away in a short time (as long as you don't encourage the behavior by going to see what's wrong whenever she/he starts)
You may want to look at puppy daycare while you work. There she can interact with other dogs, and be in a safe environment. |

Yep I am in an apartment and to got my pup too early but he usually slept while I was gone.
I gave him a twist up clock radio, tons of blankets, his bed , tons of toys and a KONG filled with soft and kibble keeps tehm busy for awhile. |

It is separation anxiety, you need to do what sam has suggested, a nice small area all of his own, secure, warm, lighted, a nice cuddle up toy to immitate siblings, clock to immitate heartbeats, look upon him as a little lost baby, but don't coddle or you will exasparate the problem. I mean you can cuddle and play etc. but don't make a fuss on departure or homecomming.

awww...poor baby. Why do people sell their pups so soon? Do you visit him & take him on potty breaks thru out the day?

I play with him often.
I'll try your suggestion tomorrow. I don't have a clicking clock, but I'll do the blankets, piece of my clothing, kong toy with food, and radio. |
