Any Dobbie owners?
Just curious of anyone else who is owned by dobermans..I have a nice red male..He was a gift from a friend who use to breed them...she didn't want him going to a breeders place,as most breeders keep them in kennals all the time,so she gave him to me...His cost with ears done would of been 2,400. So I was lucky...lol..He is such a suck...and we go for walks all the time with the ex breeder, that way Cajun gets to visit with his mom...lol..I also doberman sit for her when she is away..
We installed underground fencing about 4 years ago and that was the best investment we have ever did...It works great on the dobbie and of course now the Irish Russell pups... Cajun.. Cajun and the pups Cajun He at times does forget his size when playing with the pups..But he is so gentle that he will let them run all over him.... |

Ive never owned a Dobie. But my parents did before I was born. He was good quality with his ears clipped and his tail docked. His name was Gator. He was only a puppy, outside playing and someone stole him. Beautiful dogs. My dad was so sick of what had happened, he never got another Dobie. Its a shame I would of liked experience having one, maybe one day...how are they? Sweet? Mellow? Hyper? Ive heard from people who have bred and raised Dobies that they are agressive and unpredictable, and due to serious biting they had to get rid of there pet(s)

I think agressive and unpredictable are TOTALLY untrue! I am not in any means focusing any disrespect to you in this, I know you only know what you have heard.
My 2 Dobermans are FAR from aggressive and unpredictable. I can honestly tell you in each and every situation I have come across with my dogs I knew exactly how they would react! From different types of people, to dogs, to strange noises, you name it, I can tell you how they will react! As far as being agressive, far from that too. I can say if I was in danger, both of my Dobies would be agressive to help me. That I love about them! They would lay down in front of a car for me! I will say in all honesty a Doberman that has never been socialized, trained, and loved would be a agressive, unpredictable animal. These dogs are people dogs, they are a working breed, they need a purpose, their purpose is their master! I say it over and over, I will never own a different breed! I am a dobe owner for life. On a lighter note read some posts I have made about Clifford and Meka, they are just your average sweet, silly, goofy, adolescent dogs. Their pictures are under dog pictures, you wont be able to resist their innocent faces. Take a look at this picture and tell me a Doberman is agressive! Weimlover posted this in a thread about a fireman saving a pregnant Dobe! |

I am a great believer that there isn't a bad dog out there .... JUST BAD OWNERS ....My dobbie is so calm...and gentle...He sleeps with my 13 year old daughter all the time and when we go for walks..she walks him....When I take him for walks he is never on lead...Its all in the training that the dog gets, and of course the love from a family....when people come over to visit the one I warn them about is Cody my American Eskimo Spitz,he will nip for no reason at all...We got him when he was older and well they did a terrible job on training him....We have most of the problems worked out of him BUT there is always going to be the risk of him nipping so we warn everyone that way there will be no nipping as long as everyone follows the rule..Leave the white dog alone, unless he comes to you,and even then BE CAREFUL..never fully trust him 100%...We will keep him till he dies of old age as he did have it rough before coming to us...So its only far he has a nice home till he passes away....

From the time I was born until I was about 8 we had a doberman. Her name was TOSCA. She was a black and tan beauty with cropped ears. I personally like their ears left naturally but she was going to be trained for the RMCP and this was waaaaay back in the '60's. She never made it in the police force---she was too gentle and apparantly more interested in playing and socializing than she was in training. My Dad adopted her. The worst thing she ever did was come home after her regular morning walk one Christmas morning with someone's ham in her mouth!!! Oh, and one day she wandered over to the Convent down the road and scared some Nuns. They said she chased them, but I've always thought she just wanted to play---I was at school at the time so she was probably bored. She was my constant companion and best friend. She lived until whe was 14 years old. I have always loved the breed and would love a dobe again someday.

Awesome. Dobies sound great! Alot like a Shepherd: big sweet smart dogs, that have a bad rep to some people. Thanks for sharing all your stories with me! Dobies are very beautiful dogs, Id like to get one, some day

I know you would! If you enjoy your German Shepards you would enjoy a Dobie. My last neighbor has 2 shepards, she was working at a dog training center and got to bring a dog through a class for free, and she chose my male Dobie. She chose him because he is so easy to train, and so easy going. He is not as high strung as her Shepards.
