Hi, My dog, who is 1 1/2 has been pooping on our bathroom floor only at night while we are all in bed for about the last month. He goes out side and gets walked numerous times a day, and is out for about 1/2 hr. every night before we go to bed. He goes out at about 10:00 pm. and we get up early (6am).
He is a Springer Spanial and is very smart.
He has NEVER gone on the floor. He dont ever pee in the house, just poop. We have tried to figure it out, and we cant come up with anything. When we find the mess, we call his name, and show him the mess and say NO! then take him out.
He knows it's wrong because when we call for him to show him and say NO, he refuses to come. We have to go get him and bring him to the mess. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks, Sherri

First of all your dog does not understand that you are angry for the mess, the reason his head is down and you have to get him is because of the tone of your voice, he could not possibly realize, oh, mum has found my poo in the bathroom I had better hide. Clean your bathroom floor with a dog deodorizer, close the door at night and see if that stops it, if he goes elsewhere, you may have to feed earlier in the day, and leave him outside longer in the evening.
hope that helps.

Another thing to add would be to crate him at night. It sounds like a behavior problem, but it could be his feeding schedule. Do not correct him after you discover the mess. For corrections, you have about a five second window of opportunity. After that-the dog has no idea what he is being corrected for.
