Trying to find a list of safe foods
Hi, I just made a batch of peanut butter & banana biscuits for my dog; I gave some to a neighbor and he said peanut butter isn't good for dogs. I told him I never heard of that and that I've seen peanut butter flavored treats before. So is it good for dogs or not?
And is there a website that lists all the fruits and vegatables dogs can or cannot have? I've tried searching, but have been unsuccessful. Please anyone with knowledge of this topic, please help. Thank you so much, Kristy |

Here is a site with a list of toxic foods:

Peanut butter, in moderation, is just fine to feed to dogs. A lot of dog treats are peanut butter flavored.
In addition to that list posted above, I would also add grapes. They can cause liver toxicity. |

Does anyone know what Apple seeds can do to your pet? Lilly's stolen whole apples from the tree before!! I better keep a better eye on her from now on!!

Now that I think of it, all of my dogs have eaten apple seeds also. And whole apples at that! I have no idea what it might do

SMOOTH peanut butter is ok - but dont give them crunchy for the same reason you wouldnt give a small child crunchy - choking hazard. Also bear in mind dogs can have nut allergies just like people so dont give peanut butter to puppies or juveniles.

I think that the words to recognize in that list are "potentially" and "may".
As we've seen, you can feed foods on the list to dogs, we've all done it. So, if your dog handles and likes apples or onions, then I'd let them have some, for example when a little piece of onion falls on the floor. This website details what can happen if you feed some of those foods: http://www.petalia.com.au/Templates/...s&story_no=257 as does this site: http://www.peteducation.com/category...cls=2&cat=1939 and this one has a short detailed list of symptoms: http://dogs.about.com/cs/disableddogs/a/poison_food.htm Kelly |

Apple seeds have very, very small amounts of arsnic(sp) poison in them a dog or person would have to eat pound of them it have any problem. besides it is one of those poisons that in midevile times and after people would take small amount of everyday because the body builds a tolerance to it. all this being said a person or dog like anything else could have an alergie to it.

Apple seeds have arsenic, that is correct. It is poisonous for a PERSON to eat many apple seeds, or apple seeds without the apple, let alone a dog.
