Types of Toothpaste for Dogs

I am having fun brushing my dogs' teeth. I am using a kids electric Oral-B brush and Pet Dental toothpaste which they love the taste of. I stocked up this weekend and bought 4 tubes of toothpaste, but at $20 I am wondering if there is a cheaper way that will still do a good job.

I use St Jon's Natural Toothpaste...
It's peanut butter flavoured, Kirby loves it.

Don't remember how much it was, it's been a while since I bought a new tube.

"Ken, How are the girls getting along? Is Buttercup all healed up?"

Oooo, now you have discovered how to get me to talk for the rest of the day. I love my girls and I could go on and on about them. This is day 14 since Buttercup's hysterectomy (spay) and the doctor wanted us to use the full 14 days for her to heal. I cheated yesterday as I had the day off and took them to the hills where I let them go for the first time in the last two weeks. What a joy to watch them romping and playing in the ivy and ferns on a beautiful walk through nature. The things I see in them playing together are beyond words to explain. Let me say that it is the most wonderful experience to watch them playing together. They are best of friends and I am so fortunate to be their daddy.

Sounds like a real piece of heaven---I'm so glad you and Honey Bee found Butter Cup!!
Sorry, I got a bit off target---Mara's teeth are plaque free so far with bones and charchol biscuits. They are blindinly white and hopefully I can keep them that way.

"Mara's teeth are plaque free so far with bones and charcoal biscuits."

I don't understand why that is for one dog and not for another. Honey Bee liked to chew on sticks, which her vet has since advised against letting her do. Meanwhile there are a few areas where she has a stain, I think from chewing sticks, but I'm not sure. Brushing has helped lighten up these areas although I'm not sure if I can get them back to white without having them professionally cleaned at the vets'.

I wish we could have a vet pet dentist visit our forums to give us the lowdown on what's up with doggie dental care and why some make it with charcoal biscuits and others do not.

How old is Mara? I don't think Honey Bee's teeth started becoming tarnished until after one year old.

Mara is 16 months. She may just be too young to build up plaque yet. I watch them pretty closely, don't want her to have a problem that can be avoided. I've seen some dogs with horrible gum disease---it must really hurt!!

We use C.E.T. products. Although.. we don't brush very often.. it sits on the shelf most of the time.
